Congrats, that's a nice sluice box. And A Hell Yeh to Goldwasher!! Double thumbs up! :icon_thumleft::icon_thumright:

She more than paid for herself...I hope she is all profit for you. As you can see I sent you some California clay for luck:thumbsup:

Well I gave her a try at a 6" slope. Ran full blast on the garden hose and kept the coarser black sand that I was hoping for. Where I live we have VERY fine gold. Any suggestions?

Goldwasher May you be blessed with many large nuggets.

Duckwalk congrats on your new gold capture machine. I don't know what the rate of fall is on that machine but about an inch drop per foot of length should be a standard starting point.

That's what I figured. My slope was actually about 2 inches more in drop than it probably should've been. If I'm catching garnets and coarse black sand, does that mean the finer black sand is washing out the end?

As long as you have good flow, you want slightly less than an inch per foot with a drop riffle. You want to run it as flat as possible. The main thing to look for is the material in the drops dancing around and is loose to the touch. As you add material you will see it clear and move down the sluice. Feed at a rate that keeps the drops from filling up. Introduce the material in the flair and let the water do the work. You only need to classify down to 1/2 inch with that sluice. I hope it helps you move more material.

It means the black sand you don't want is washing out

To assure yourself, put a big pan below the sluice to catch some tailings. Then pan it out to see if you're losing gold.

Despite being posted in another thread, i thought id share my most recent sluice addition as well as bump this thread for any new comers or newer sluices!

here is the small AM sluice i got recently. Also as a side note, feel free to turn the sound down, apparently i like to repeat the same phrase over and over again lol

Is that classifier your using a 1/2" one? if so and your only finding fine gold you should at least go to a 1/4" classifier, which your sluice will handle better and you'll actually be putting more gold holding material in your sluice if its all fine gold.

Nice creek Duckwalk, looks like tick country though. Love that greenery!

Ticks, copper heads, Cotten mouths, and black widows everywhere there. You can always tell a black widow web. It's in dark places like in the holes of trees, and always looks like a gnarly mess of webbage. But, that creek has shown the best gold I've seen since I started, well worth the danger

July 11, 2014...will be taking delivery today of my latest bazooka, the MINI!! I started with the 30" sniper, and that changed the time and energy and amount of gold I was getting per outing, so I saved up and got the 36" prospector next, Holy Sheets! Who knew a sluice box could kick my butt like that! As our water levels are dropping and the heat is going up, many of the creeks that we work are super low, so I though I would get a MINI so I am prepared for whatever water condition Mother Nature throws at me. I hope to get out in the next week to do some sampling in a couple areas that are a real doozy to hike down into, so the mini will be perfect, and it only weighs 3 pounds!

Just be sure to classify somewhat with that mini...or feed it sloooowly. Either strategy will give great gold retention, otherwise you'll likely lose some.

Thanks Kevin! I tend to classify to about 1/2 because where I like to dig is not as close to where I can set up a sluice as I like. Should I classify farther that that with the mini?
