Nice finds deb.

Wow, great digging, indeed!
How 'bout a little story of the find? Not very often one of us finds a silver dollar, let alone three! Congrats to you and HH.

We got permission to check out back behind some historical buildings. We were digging lots of trash, as I stood there looking at the older trees, and raised ground next to the soccer field. So I headed to the weeping willow tree. I never made it. After a few cans and foil...I swear the earth was vibrating under me. I dug 4 inches. Pulled out tow coins and what a great sound it made. I turned to my friend and she ran over.....(she was getting a good hit by the weeping willow tree) we were digging like we dogs looking for our bones. Pinpointed was freaking out. Weird tho, some older coins and some newer ones, and some I don't even know, what they are. One is a mans face, larger coin. Any ideas? We found broken pottery, glass, cloth that the coins might have been wrapped in. Probably an old house there. The town was once burned down by troops that landed on the beach. Also hurricane sandy hurt this town bad. I could not believe what a mess we made, but next time we promise to do better. There were so many other good hits as we were getting eaten by Mosquitos, but we had to leave.

Holy cow, what a score. Do I see two silver dollars? And on the the big coins looks like it says Pesos on it. Can you see a date or amount?

No dates as of yet but the olive oil is working. I want to really brush hem hard, but I can't . I will work on them as the week progresses.

WOW!! All those coins with 3 of them silver dollars is an awesome find! Congrats. :notworthy:

The other coins look like old Mexican pesos from what I can tell and you got a couple of modern Canadian cents and a Canadian nickel. Looks like you found a real nice cache although it appears that it may have been buried ca. 1960 or so! To clean the silver just wet the silver dollars and wrap them tightly in aluminum foil. Don't rub the foil on the coin, just wrap it and press down tightly with your fingers. It will get warm and smell like rotten eggs. Wash the coin gently with dish soap and a soft toothbrush. Keep doing it until the silver coins are clean. Try rubbing some wet baking soda on them with your fingers to clean any stubborn stains off the silver.

I would say you got a BANNER find there :icon_thumleft:

Deb - take the coins out of the olive oil and wash the oil off with some dish soap. Clean the silver like I told you and put the nickels in a big blob of ketchup for several days--keep changing the ketchup when it turns brown. I'd put the ketchup in a plastic bag or small pyrex bowl and cover it. I'm not sure what metal the pesos are--someone here will be able to tell you, then clean them with the appropriate method. Olive oil sucks :laughing7:

Thanks Erik. It seems to be loosening up the crud but am getting impatient.

You can grow old waiting for olive oil to work on those coins. The aluminum foil and baking soda should clean up the silver pretty quickly. The ketchup will clean those nickels up in a week or less. Everything is really badly corroded because of all the different types of metal coming into contact. Are those Mexican pesos copper?

holy smokes awesome dig! what's the mintmark on that 1885 morgan? if it's Carson City, it's a winner for sure

Nice finds!!! How big is the hole?:laughing7:

Yep I see Mexican pesos there.

The hole ended up about 3 ft wide and a few inches deep, and when we thought we got, them all and check the hole, we fixed it to near perfect, then looked at each other, "aw man". There was another hit with 3 more.

Liking the coin find, the silvers look really cool in the condition that they came out of the ground, no doubting these finds.

Holy Smokes Deb ! What a Jackpot !! Could use some luck like that =DVery nice digs there ,CARM
