I went to the site of an old hotel today in the rain. 10 minutes into my hunt I get a dime signal with my Whites Prizm IV.
The signal was reading about 4 inches. I start digging but when I reached 4 inches I get nothing. Another two inches my digger hits something metal, but it sounded hollow and thought the usual aluminum can. When I dig around it I noticed it is a small black box. As I pulled the box out I realize there is something rattling around inside it. When I opened it, my heart stopped and I yelled in my head "it's SILVER." There are 16 coins inside, as follows and check the sequence of the dates out.
:wav:
2 Barber Half Dollars
1913S
1912D
2 Barber Quarters
1892
1893
9 Barber Dimes
1907
1911
1911D
1912
1912D
1914
1914D
1916
1916S
3 Indian Head Pennies
1899
1900
1908

Someone's coin collection apparently. The last date is 1916 and they're all fairly evenly worn. Someone collected Barbers and Indian probably while they still could be pulled from circulation and hid them away. Nice find!! Congrats

I think daytondigger nailed it.

I buried a cache in a glass jar when I was 10 years old, in my sandbox, about a foot deep. I looked for it a year later but never found it. My dad poured a slab over the sandbox and built a shed. Someday somebody will find it. A bunch of early 60s coins, I'd guess, mostly pennies.

Nice cache find, those are the finds we are looking for. The suspense when you see the box and
shake it. Then you open it thinking its just a couple of screws or bolts and nuts and see silver!
Just a great find!

Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bet that made your day.

I thought you and Mike and Craig were hunting buddies...since that site was shown to you, how come Mike and Sniper havent chimed in here.. :icon_scratch:

I read your previous posts, Rob. You are a lucky man.

I have never seen someone find so many silver dollars and silver half dollars, and practically not have to contend with any other pesky coins at all. You also found that pristine 2 mark coin in your pocket change, and that beautiful almost pristine George copper in your mothers lawn.

And those two arrowheads that your dog dug up, with those pronounced medial ridges and no bifacial reduction.... so unusual!

And now this amazing cache!

Your skill as a metal detectorist and luck are unreal!

You forgot to say Banner.

Caches rule!!!
