Those are some nice finds! I dug a silver thimble years ago in Albany Georgia that had the lady's name on the side of it. If you haven't already, you might want to look to see if there is a name on it. I've heard of others being found with names. Good luck!

It has a number 6 stamped on it, it's a first thimble for me....I look forward to cleaning up the cannon ball.

Congrats on the finds, especially the thimble.

Your Canon ball is really a Grape shot. Very nice find it should clean up nice.

Yes a I have learned of that about the grapeshot....either way it's my first and was exciting to find none the less. Now I need to get all the rust off...hmmmm

How exciting for you congrats!

I agree. Its most likely from a stand of grape. They are fired from CANNONS though.. so technically correct!

Is your "avatar" really your picture?

Let it dry out then beat the s*** out of it with a hammer. Can't go wrong and will not harm your relic.. promise

Thanks for sharing...

is there any "wording" around the thimbles side--often there was-- the 6 is a size number..

I wouldn't beat a grapeshot with a hammer. Maybe a cannonball, but not grape. It might split it in half if the metal is compromised by rust. Use the Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) method mentioned in the Cleaning and Preservation section of the forum. I always coat immediately with Evaporust to stop flash rust, then heat and coat with a thin coat of crisco.

Cheers and Congrats! I just dug a silver thimble yesterday!

Im jealous.. of your minelab of course!

AWESOME FINDS!!! I too hate Poison Ivy, and Poison Oak. That stuff blisters me. Usually I have to go to the doctor for it.
