Hello again Everyone,

I decided to hit the old Barrio park again yesterday with Jon(goldenapples), Mike(ratman), and Curt(Bibleman). It was a fun day. I thought the park was going to be much more crowded because of Veteran's day, but it was just as empty as an ordinary weekday.

I got off to a slow start, getting just a '17 merc and about 14 wheaties by midday. After lunch, we moved to a different area and that's when I got 3 more silvers, including an '07 barber dime, '42 merc, and '64 Rosie; the Rosie was my first from this park after pulling some 15 silver from the turf there. The 1901 V nickel was a surprise. I got a deep wheatie/silver tone, and was surprised to see the nickel sandwiched between two '29 wheaties. I ended the day with 38 wheaties, including another really bad '09.

Lastly, an interesting find turned out to be the large aluminum token that's seen much better days. All I could see on it was "L B. De Mille". After researching, I identified it as a 1939 Lucky Piece for Cecil B. DeMille's movie "Union Pacific".

It was a fun and long hunting day. I feel it today after digging lots of deep plugs as usual.

Thanks for looking, and good hunting to all.

1939 Aluminum Lucky Piece
for Cecil B. DeMille's movie
"Union Pacific"
w/ "The Overland Route" Shield
These lucky pieces were made in 1939 to promote Cecil B. DeMille's new movie and to promote the UP's Streamliner and Challenger trains. They were made from the same aluminum made by Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) that was used to build the passenger cars for those trains.

Nice finds as usual, but many hours of digging to hit almost 600 silver coins, most just don't realize the time spent, and the effort to dig that much. All the trash, clad, wheaties, and other coins and junk!! Congrats!!

Minelab strikes again, & again, & again!!!!!!!

This machine works flawlessly like Captain has a 3rd arm, no machine finds more silver than what the explorer finds...Excellent finds as usual...............

Thanks, Jack!! You're right, a lot of other items are found while detecting the turf. It all makes for a very exciting, tiring day while looking for that elusive silver.

Thanks, Don!! The SE has worked flawlessly since my purchase back in Jan. My sunray probe, however, is starting to act up a little. I think I have a tweaked wired where it goes into the housing. It still works, but falses when I wiggle it too hard. Time for a tune-up.

Great finds Dan. That aluminum piece was a neat dig and I haven't seen one before. I love finding old token type stuff but it doesn't happen often.
Good luckon the next hunt

Dan, you are still kicking some serious buttocks in the SoCal area. Remember, bud, silver is second to the gold. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Keep up the great work, Mr. Master of the Minelab. You are closing in on that 600 really fast.

Thanks, Bryce, Nat, and Zoy!

Hey, buddy, congrats on another great haul of wilver. You make all wilver carrying dudes in the past proud of your excavations.

I don't see you questioning your "deep-seeking" abilities. You know how to "look" deeply. ;) :D ;D

Oh, I was in the beginning stage of hypothermia on Sunday. I still remained tough though. :D

very very nice digs!

great finds and a great hunt captn congrats ;)

Capt., If I could just get you to turn that disc. down and go for the gold I might be able to compete on the silver! LOL, but that just may be a double edged sword cause then you'd probably best me on the gold and I've got you on that so far!HE HE HE,Congrats Bootstrap

Congrats Silver Surfer!!!
Another outstanding hunt Big Dan.

Captn Silver strikes again ! He's a magnet folks .... ;D

Nice finds SE,

That silver haul for the yr is large. I like to weigh the fact that you are finding five times as much silver a yr as I am. But what I'm finding is alot older. But I'd take 600 rosies a yr if that's how it came. Great numbers man.

You should be proud of a yr like that. How many hrs a week are you out hunting.

Thanks Jer,

Love your posts. You really know how to do the research to find the old stuff!

You're right...a lot of merc and rosies for me. My oldest silver is an 1858 Seated Half. My area is just not as old as yours. All my silver this year has come from parks....over 50 of them in S. CA. I'm averaging about 3 good hunts a week, anywhere from 6-9 hrs a hunt. That's what its going to take today (back in the early 80's, completely different) to find good quantities of the missed silver in these parks. All the parks I've hunted were detected heavily in the 80's-early 90's. This is a year I will never be able to duplicate, unless I find a large cache of silver next year. I won't be able to put as much time into the hobby as I have this year. Plus, there's a whole lot less silver in these parks today, after me and my 6-7 Explorer buddies have been pounding them to death. This year's silver was all individual digs, with a small handful of multiple silver holes. Lots of wheaties too.
