I know of people that make these, but never recovered one. The VDI and tone all said "silver quarter". When I dug it there was a lot of wet clay on the inside so I couldn't see the writing, and the rim on the inside kind of made me wonder if it was really just a piece of stainless.

But when I cleaned it... viola!

Very nice find. I made a few of those when I was in the Navy aboard ship in the early 60's. Congrats

Great find, Ed-D, Welcome to the coin ring club. Beware the Mrs., as I showed my half dollar ring to my wife last year and haven't been able to get it off of her finger since! Sub 8-)

Congrats on digging a ring made from a coin. :occasion14: I prize mine and yet yours was made with more care when it comes to having a date and more text.

Thats a very nice find, & I like the way the worked it so the date was left on it. I have never found a coin ring, but maybe someday.

I don't know if they are still there, probably are. When I was active on Ebay a couple years ago some fellow was making them and selling them. I'd always heard that in the older days, say the Depression Era, they made them with a spoon. Kinda went along with the hobo nickles.
