I went and beat up a few old home sites on the old map. Unfortunately I wasn't the only one. There were holes with big iron and cans laying next to them. The privvys were already dug out with a few bottle remanats strewn about. Its a shame I hadn't zeroed in on these a few years ago. Going off the old maps in the woods is tough. I walked by some of these sites a few times and they are so tucked away and overgrown you almost have to fall into the foundation to find them. I got a nice signal next to a hole with a half a can next to it. I figured I'd clean up the other half the can. I was feeling dejected thinking I wasted the day on a beat site. Out pops a nice heavy silver top to a salt shaker! I'm thinking "Sweet, they left me some silver."
Next i got a silver spoon handle next to the privvy diggings. I was feeling encouraged. I got a V nickel, largies and Indians and felt there were a few coins left. This is the detecting where you are lucky to get a briar free patch to stick the loop into and the holes are in all the accessible dirt. I got the coil close enough to the ground in the bushes to get a nice 32-35 on the Nox. It sounded huge and I figured it'd be a can but this nice Barber half popped up! Funny I have detected 1 Seated Liberty and 5-6 Barber halves and never got one bank roll hunting. I wonder how many times in the past I walked away from silver dollars and halves thinking they were cans because of the junk strewn location. Both items give off a huge signal. I snapped a pic of these skulls for kicks.

Ill tell you there are many detectorists who will find a place like that and not be willing to put the work in to find the good stuff. Thats the difference between a good treasure hunter and a not so good one. Thats some sweet finds looks like all the goodies are still there for you the good hunter....Well done my friend.......Tommy

Me and my boys have been finding a few antlers this spring. I've never found any attached to the skull. Really cool and nice coins. Lots of times those bottle diggers turn out some coins, I'm sure you checked the piles!! Congratulations on the half, the first one is always the best!!
