Hi everyone,

New here, I stumbled across the forum whilst looking to identify some rocks I obtained whilst beach combing. As the subject line suggests, I have narrowed it down to slag glass or green obsidian, although I am no expert so I welcome any suggestions.

Hardness test - super hard, knife doesn't touch it
Acid test - no reaction to the naked eye
Magnetic - no

Any help is much appreciated, and I look forward to meeting some of the members here.

First set is a small example, about an inch. Second set is a more roughly formed example, both quite heavy for the size about 2 inches and 2.5 inches.

Thank you

I do collect rocks and minerals, some fossils. I'm no expert but I believe you have slag glass. It's still nice.

Not obsidian. Could be slag glass. Based only on the images, there are other possibilities, however. I would suggest taking it to a lapidary club, lapidary shop, or a gem and mineral club. Someone at one of these places should be able to ball you positively identify what you have.

Medical appointment today. Coffee after. But it is still past time for coffee.
