So I have 1 1968 half out of 9,000 coins, why am I doing this?

The only coin I found was in the 8th roll I grabbed from the very first box.

I'm thinking that odd are against CRH'ing for silver in densly populated areas. At least that's my experience.

By the way, when a small town bank requests halves do they typically come from that regional area? I can't imagine it would be cost efficient to ship massive amounts of coins from hundred of miles away, but that doesnt mean it doesnt work that way.

I did find an error today. A well circulated half with only the middle of "Liberty" and parts of the perimeter and date either not present or extremely faint. What's that sucker worth?

I'm on box #14 of straight skunks, so I'm right behind your 18 boxes. I found silver in my first box.

Not sure why people think East Coast is like some holy grail of silver... I am at 38 boxes for last month with 5 - 40% and 1 90% And yes, im on the east coast.

I'm no math whiz either, I've done 4 1/2 $500 boxes so actually that's 4500. I'm still torqued. All the videos on Youtube showing double digit silver finds in halves are a year old.

Anybody know how the banks in small towns get their coins? If they get them from some out-state facility then they'd seem to give better odds whether you got their existing vault halves or they ordered them.

Out of 20 boxes of halfs I have only pulled out 1 40%er. Plus I am in Ohio and I beleive that is consider to be on the east coast. So where is the great finds......Matt

Judging from results from other forum members here who are in the northeast (ie VA, NY, New England), they blow my results out of the water. Don't know where you are in the east coast but if you are in South Carolina or something like that, it may be different.

Even a year ago, I would wager that for every box you saw on Youtube showing double digit finds, there were thousands of boxes with no silver in them opened all across the country that you didn't see. If you got into this thinking you would find 10+ silvers in every box, then I think you are sadly mistaken. 10+ keeper boxes are EXTREMELY rare, which I would imagine is why they were posted on Youtube to begin with. People like to brag. You don't see videos of metal detectorists digging nothing but pulltabs and trash all day, but yet there are many more detectorists doing just that than the video of the guy digging 20 silvers, a gold coin, and 3 gold/platinum rings that you do see.


As far as the where your small town bank gets their coins, they come from one of the coin sorting facilities just like all the other banks. (Loomis, Brinks, Guarda, etc)

I recommend these steps to all newcomers.

Step 1: Look through 4 or so boxes
Step 2: Complain that you only found 1 coin
Step 3: Find 6 40s, 5 90s and 2 Bens in the next two boxes you hunt.

I was in fantasy land there as I was pulling 1 every 3 rolls for a while. I thought for sure both boxes would be similarily rich but one had 11 and the other box had 2.

What do you guys find when it comes to multiple boxes, it seems that it makes sense to get two boxes from the bank on the chance that you hit a silver vein and the boxes are consequtive. I can't imagine what the other boxes in this sequence were like. The only thing I can can think of is that somebody who had some coinage in a jar for at least the last 2-3 years finally turned them in.

I think I heard that gambling is adictive because it pays off sporadically, so I suppose I'm an addict now though I think I'm due to get burned by the law of averages.
