Todd and I made it out to an obviously virgin field site this evening. Apparently these farmers had a lot of holes in their pockets.

Research had indicated that there was at least a couple homesteads there at one time and it only took a couple quick swings of the detector to find out that it was going to be a great night.
Our evening was filled digging draped bust, King George's and a couple of stinkin coronet heads mixed in.

My take was two draped busts one is 1805 can't read the other , a half cent 1809, a 1744 King George, the coronet head and an unknown coin. I also found four little buttons, and a nice lock.

There was so much action that I ended up recording us both recovering large cents at practically the same time.
I like the part in the video where I say I am gently recovering the coin, as I am grunting to dig it out....My darn finger was on the focus so it is a bit fuzzy in a part or two

Guess you just have to get the old copper trash out to find the good aluminum stuff like we do. The pull tabs and the screw caps. Congrats on some absolutely killer coppers.

What a hunt! How does something as big as an LC get lost?

I just found a 6-lever excelsior lock but none of the other good stuff you found. I think that came much later than your awesome coinage. Probably late 1800's

Thanks Guys. I say stinkin just to make people laugh or smirk... A guy on another forum was shaming me for saying such a thing, he just didn't see the wink of my eye as I was typing it.

That old lock is cool, and you are right it is a much newer vintage. My detecting buddy last night has also found one in the past.. Here is an ad from 1920 for the exact lock

forgot to add - I can only imagine what else will be found when the big/obvious targets fade, when that happens it is almost like a site is reborn. Also imagine if it was a plowed field or grass mowed low. Keep us posted.

Such a vid sure gives me the motivation to get back to the research. I have been in some great sites near my home but they have about played out. Time to look for some greener pastures. Now just hoping I can find one that "GREEN".

Great hunt, had to be a lot of fun! Get back there when the grass is cut or after the snow melts when you can get the coil closer to the ground!
