My Saturday morning hunt was starting to feel like it was going to be pretty uneventful . I was hitting yet another obscure park / city lot today . There was not much clad in this spot . It turned out to be fill over Yet another in town ash dump . Every so often I could Punch through the fill and make a hit in the ashes . I hit the door bell cover or escutcheon and the Large cent down in the ash. IT is in pretty bad shape probably due to the corrosive property of the ashes . but turned out to be a 1913 British GEORGE V one penny. I found one of these three years ago in Bangor so this was not a first for me . The gold watch I found in the fill above the ashes was a first for me . Turned out to be a good little score. Though there was no mark on the watch but I knew it was gold Immediately . It had the look and the heft of gold . The jeweler confirmed it was 15.8 g or 10.2 dwt of 14 K gold .
I also scrounged out of the ashes two Portland Railroad buttons. A jacket and a cuff button " PRR" with quite a bit of gilt left on it. Thanks for looking ! MaineRelic. MaineRelic.
