That wouldn't have wood in it would it?

Is it one of those things they closed transom windows with. ( I think that is what they called them)

I think Ramitt has hit the nail on the head :icon_thumright:. Parts of my old school where built in Tudor times and other parts were built in Victorian times. The Victorian buildings had "Transom Windows" and they used those hooks on long poles to open and close them.

This is one of those times that I shouldn't have relied on memory alone :laughing7:. My Father was in the navy during WW2 and as such I was raised around boats. Well after my "premature senior moment" I suddenly thought boat hook. Try this link http://marinestore.co.uk/DA1018-GM-150.html

Kinda small for a boat hook and the tabs don't look long or strong enough grapple with.

agreed, much too small to qualify as a boat hook. more likely the window pole thingy or an umbrella handle or something.

I also think it is too small for a boat hook. Could be a transome window hook, but I couldn't find any pics like it. It sure looks like a automotive hood latch from the 30's or 40's...

I dont think hood latch would have wood in it. It was most likely something on a pole or handle.. Is it brass? So far no match on the transom window idea.

The boat hook posted is 6 inches long and is called the "Double 6" model. . Maybe they made a smaller size. :dontknow: It does seem kinda small. Hard to visualize sometimes. http://marinestore.co.uk/davey-boat-hooks-galvanised-and-gunmetal.html

Is that a dime, quarter or half dollar?

Im now thinking umbrella handle or something like someone said. Or what creskol first said. Does it fit well in your hand or with two fingers? The extra side hook may be to hang it up.

I suspect the coin is a quarter. That would make the shaft smaller than a dime . That would NOT make a very sturdy/strong wood handle. Also no set screw to hold the wood in place. :icon_scratch: I can not expain the wood, but it still looks like a hood latch to me.
