In the interest of full disclosure, I know less about munitions than I do about women. But I know enough about both to ask here about the former, and not the latter....

I found this piece in a southern Pennsylvania farm field outside Mechanicsburg Pa.
It looked too much to me like the bottom of a rimfire shell, and considering the area it was found, that it didn't automatically go in the metal scrap pile.

A quick internet search shows some similar fused items, but not this.

So before I toss it, I want to be sure that it's not munition related.

Thoughts?

Measures about 1 1/2" in diameter.

Somewhat of a guess, but to me it looks a lot like the base of a flare gun ammo. Most have a longer brass casing but the bottom looks the same.

Back in the day they had shotguns shells that could take out half a flock with one shot, I wonder if its like a 2 gauge or something lol

Its the starter cap for an WWII period airplane. Its like a big gun cartridge, but I'm not sure of their proper name.

You are looking for the term, Starter Cartridge. The term Coffman Starter is used a lot also.
Ok thanks, I think its one of those types of engine starter, but the punt gun option looks close as well.

Ive spent some time looking at online pics of both the punt shells and starter shells.
The lip edges on those seem to a little bigger, but I couldn't look at them all.

There's not much difference in some either. the had starter shells to start diesel tanks!

Great call guys, as usual, and much appreciated!
