Great Banner finds. I don't think four days is long in making the banner these days, one that has just made it in the last couple of days, was first posted on October 12th, some just take a little longer....I hope there are more there waiting for your coil.

CONGRATS on the Banner, just AWESOME

[DFW_THer]

I need to see 5 more. PUH-LEASE!

Congrats on making the banner, but the discovery of 8 8 reale cobs is certainly a far sweeter accomplishment! The thought of the historical realities (such as the Barbary coast privateers/pirates capturing Europeans for their lucrative slave trade) which may have caused those cobs to be deposited where you found them is far more fascinating than the modern cultural-Marxist ("social justice") nonsense which suggests that white Americans invented slavery and are solely to blame for the evil institution.

Those 8-reale cobs would likely have an incredible story to tell if such things were possible. I hope that you find many many more, and give us a few pictures of your extraordinary discoveries. Happy hunting brother.

Man those are some thick chunky silvers, very cool!!

[Plumbata]

WOW! Beautiful cobs man, absolutely amazing! So what are we looking at, 5 8 reales, a 4 reales, and 2 1 reales?

It is extremely likely that some or all of these pieces were plundered from European merchant vessels, or were used to pay the ransom for a captured Christian slave. Literal pirate treasure. Cobs found in the USA are awesome, but your Algerian cobs probably have a far more interesting (and violent) history. Your discovery is way way too underrated here in my opinion.

[Army of 1]

cuzcoskurell wrote me in 2009 ...a part of historry
After Granada fell in southern Spain, in the 1490's, North Africa was considered for the next stage of the "crusade."

Mers-el-Kebir and Oran sent envoys to the court and tried to establish good relations with Castille and Leon. The Portugese were in Ceuta since 1415.

Melillia was taken in 1497 by Medina-Sidona (a powerfull Spanish Duke). In 1505 Malaga was taken, then Mers-el-Kebir. Oran was taken in 1509. Bougie was taken in 1510.

Algiers accepted Spanish rule in 1510. Tripoli was captured in 1510.

In 1515 Spain defended Bougie with 3,000 men from Barbarossa. Seems like Khayr-al-Din/Barbarossa took Algiers away this year also (might be 1529.)

The Turks penetrated into Germany in the next 10 years and fighting was redirected to the German states.

In 1522 Barbarossa recaptured Velez de La Gomera, and the Penon Algiers in 1529. The Castillian garrison there was put to death.

La Goletta was sieged, taken and sacked by the Spanish in 1535. Tunis was also captured and Barbarossa fled.

In 1541 Spain attempted to attack Algiers from the sea. A storm blew up and 150 vessels, many small, and 12,000 men were lost. Included was the loss of 13 or 14 large galleys.

In 1552 Tlemcen was taken over by the Ottomons. In 1555, Bougie was recaptured by the Ottomons.

In 1558, an independant Spanish expedition to North Africa was wiped out.
thank's to cuzco.. & any one who compleat what after 1558
