Hey Gang,
Finally convinced my wife to accompany me on a day-long excursion. The fact that yesterday was my birthday really helped! Normally when I go on an out-of-town junket I try to get out of the house as early as possible. However, yesterday I had to wait for Tammy to have her coffee and do all her womanly things before we could leave.
We finally left around 8 and hit Mickey D's about an hour later for some dollar menu breakfast items.
If you all remember my post from a couple weeks ago (349 Coins today) I had vowed to return to this city and hit the schools (hit mostly parks last time).
Hit the schools we did! I didn't write them all down and record the findings at each school as is my custom so I will just have to wing it.
Tammy had never used a metal detector before and I could not explain how pinpointing works to her satisfaction
So, she did a lot of digging in the wood chips, lots of times giving up on finding the target. She had a good time and vowed to do it again...I think she now understands the addiction.
Around noon we were in a Community Center tot lot next to a church...church was in session (we parked in their lot). I took the eastern side of the tot lot and Tammy took the west. About 20 minutes in she calls me over. She had dug up a cross and necklace from around 5 or 6 inches deep! It doesn't appear to be silver, but she was excited. Yep, it could just as easily been gold or silver. I was proud of her for sticking to it and digging that deep! Her take for the day was 54 coins for a total of $2.84 (4 quarters, 10 dimes, 11 nickels, 29 pennies and a Republic of Panama penny, a barrette, an animal pendant & a LOT of junk). I would say she had a great day for her first time using a metal detector. I remember my first day...4 pennies! Today I dug out the Ace 250 video for her to watch and hopefully learn how to pinpoint...next time hopefully she will have an easier time.
Me? Oh yeah, I had a pretty good day too. 258 coins (34 quarters, 34 dimes, 37 nickels, 153 pennies including a 53D wheatie, a 5 cent Spanish Euro, a Malawi 50 Tambala (whatever the heck that is), a Zap Zone token, a headless soldier, a tiny man, a tin ring & a plastic ring plus some miscellaneous heart pendants & other trinkets).
Together we retrieved 312 coins for a total of $18.22. No silver, no gold, but a good time nevertheless.
Here are the trinkets:

And the other finds:

Yours truly:

We will do it again, hopefully sooner rather than later. A lot depends on how much higher the gas price goes...it is $4.20 today and its beginning to look more and more like I'm going to have to come out of retirement just to make ends meet.
Have a good Memorial Day weekend everyone, stay safe & find lots of good stuff!
