Beautiful America is right!! Was the pick of the Bighorn taken around palm Springs by chance?

This was taken on the hike to the Claim in June last year. This year in June on the same hike , not a spec of snow

:icon_scratch:I beleive that is an antelope that thinks she is a Bighorn?

Yep, looks like one of them rocket-powered flatlanders is a bit out of her element...:icon_scratch:

Yes, that's an antelope just ten miles north of Reno. The canyon below holds a great panel of rectilinear petroglyphs - hope it remains a secret from vandals!

Always look for Speed Goats around Honey Lake when we drive down to Reno. Seen many time up by Ravensdale also. Ain't got them critters here and love looking for them. All we have is Elk and Deer everywhere, like to see different critters!

That is some interesting history, jack rabbit hunts, as well as inputs on "wild horses", I always thought they were "mustangs"! Your real comments have a sobering effect when compared to what the government and certain groups want the populace to know or think they know, brainwashing I believe it is called as opposed to true and real history. And having fun is another part of this site, Go Tnet!......................63bkpkr

Honey Lake, Ravensdale, Duck Lake, and Sheldon Nat'l Refuge all have sizable herds of Antelope. They were there since Paleo times - if you know what to
look for, you can find evidence of hunting blinds, rock fences used to channel the antelope into ambush spots, and lots of rock art and habitation sites of the
ancient peoples. Pretty cool stuff.

We had a 10 year influx of calif. transplants - don't know whats happening recently. Back then the rumor was, you could sell your house
in calif, buy a bigger one here, and live for 20 years off the remaining profit.

The same was said about the rural mountain communities of N. California. When we bought our 3200' slice of heaven over 20 years ago, the only thing we had was no neighbors a small cabin and a view. We are now surrounded by little "mini ranchettes". All have done exactly what Fullpan speaks of. They keep trying to propose asphalt, curb, gutter and a gated community. I am happy to report the road is still gravel all be it very nice expensive gravel.

Yup, "mini ranchettes" - all over south of Reno. Wouldn't be a problem if they didn't want to change every d*mm thing to suit their former lifestyles.

I'll have to look and see if I can find some pics of the Bighorn Sheep we have here. Standing right in the middle of town eating grass 10 feet away from traffic. One of my Professors tells me this isn't an ideal situation. My response to her was, "If this is not an ideal situation for them, then someone needs to inform them of that. The Fish and Game Department here traps them out and relocates them. Two weeks later they are back."

Although it is funny to watch the flatlanders think they are tame and get to close to them. Usually results in a part of the vehicle they are driving with a few body panels caved in.

Unfortunatly Bighorn sheep....are sheep.....they are very susceptible to all kinds of disease.I watched two different bands completly wiped out.....the entire population in Montana by Lung worm and a form of phnuemonia(sp)funny hing is these two bands had no way of ever coming into contact with domestic sheep which is the why the Gov is saying that domestic sheep should not be allowed any where there iswild sheep....there are several ways of looking at both sides of that argument but imho the benefits out weigh the negative.....more research is being done though, its a tough one.Predators....mountain lions are consuming many of the relocated sheep like candy.

MADM,you made mention of "Relocation",.......note that relocation of "problem",animals or animals that have found how easy it is to live off of us

A curious thing about antelope - on a seldom used dirt road, if you startle a group, they will run parallel to the road for what seems like miles, rather than veering away!!

............cant jump over fences either

Some bears were relocated into MY CANYON back in the late 70's and they've played heck with my food bags till I brought in and out and in and out, etc. a steel cable. The place is now loaded with bears and some day it will mean bad trouble..................63bkpkr

Yes...it most definitely will!!!Bears are some what "lazy",and trainable, habits are not easily broken with them ....actually they cant!

re reading my statement above the way I said it almost sounds like I was saying all of the sheep in Montana were wiped out.......I meant the Band near Melrose, and the Quake Lake Band's....
