I found this stone while detecting at an old indian/lumberjack camp area and was wondering if it is an indian relic or just a natural formation. It was found on private property about 1/4 mile from an native America burial ground.

Thanks,

Badger

i agree. the part that you would hold at the top of the spindle if you were starting a fire with a bow. i think you found something good there badge!

Could also be a nut cracker stone.

:o Badger! 8)

When Lisa and I go hunting I always remind her to look for those Indian artifacts and poison ivy. :D She says she can't think about two things at once! :D I think she's had poison ivy all summer on her arms. :P

Looks like a great find!

Hay Badger, not to confuse you but it could also be what is known as a "Grinding Stone." Indians used them to grind up food stuff like grains etc. What ever you have there its a keeper for sure. HH

it doesnt look to be an indian stone to me.
the indentation would be more round. looks like an ordenary everyday rock with an indentation in it to me
take it to a museum and ask them.

Post it on the American Indian artifacts forum. Maybe you'll get more answers there. I've posted a few arrowheads I've found there and gotten some very knowledgeable responses. Good luck. I hope you have something good.

Thanks! Do you have a link for the site?

I did a search and found lots of sites but no forum as such.

Hey MB, as much as I want that stone to be an Indian artifact, I'm going to give you my two cents worth. Really looks like another stone or rock was wedged into it when that stone was formed and has since fallen out. Would be very hard to wear or make an impression like that without modern day technology. Hope I'm wrong. HH, Mike

Yeah right, and he will never see it again. It will end up in a drawer in the basement. And when they found out where he found it, lights out for the property owner.

Thats easy..........its an ancient JELL-O Mold! lol

What else could it be!

You're most likely right Mike. Thanks!

Oh well, maybe next time.

Thanks to all who posted and maybe the comments here will help others too. ;)

you can't tell me stones can't be worn down like this other than by modern tools. Look at this rock. If you look close you will see the date that this rock was modified by human hands.
