It's hard to tell from your photos, but I don't think you have found a pocket watch. It looks to be a wind-up musical locket. Many of the Victorian musical lockets had an attached flat key, and not one that looked like a pocket watch. Neat find :) Breezie

it has a center hole where hands would be and on the small piece thats left of the face shows a faint 3 in the correct position but it was together when it came out and no other gears were present

You're holding it in your hand, so you can see it much better. It was hard to tell from the photos. :) Breezie

Could you post some clearer photos; especially showing the center pin and the "3." Does the metal attract a magnet? Is the metal thin and cheaply made or is it thick and substantial? I downloaded one of your photos, enlarged it, but still could not see well enough to make a true call on it.

After sleeping on it, I've changed my thoughts from a musical locket, to a toy watch. With the small amount of 'works,' and the lack of space to have 'thicker' works, it could be a toy watch where the stem moved the hands, thus would only need limited works. Of course the correct ID depends on clearer photos and answers to the above questions. It's really hard to make a judgment call on this item without seeing it in person, so you have to be our eyes.

Here's a vintage fancy toy pocket watch: http://www.etsy.com/listing/83123051/charming-tin-toy-pocket-watch-with-chain

Here's a musical locket from TNet; note it's thickness, which yours appears not to have: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/illinois/255629-musical-locket.html

i think this is about as good of photos as i can get at least you can somewhat make out the 3 on the right the silver colored metal is thin but does not attract a magnet at all and seems to be well engraved sorry but my good camera is not cooperating

This is not a pocket watch, but rather a wrist watch. You have the back and part of the "guts." The front of it (along with the glass) would've had the prongs that held the pins for the straps.

Buck
