Looks like some type of coal, but it can be hard to judge from pictures.

Its very shiny and brittle, but i havent been able to ignite it.

How heavy?

Clean coal floats in water - dirty coal is heavier, but still much lighter than most other rocks.

Coal is found all over the place, because it was used for heating, cooking and train fuel. (Are you near train tracks?)

I've found coal underwater scuba diving off Hollywood Beach Florida dropped overboard from when ships used coal fired steam engines.
Are you near a beach or waterway?

Its very light, lighter than a rock and yes i do live pretty close to train tracks actually.
