My family and a couple of our friends are heading to Florida this summer for vacation. We plan to do Disney World, the beach and more. I plan to detect for a couple of days, but don't know where to go. I would really like to detect for sunken ship-pirate ( that's the kid in me) treasures and artifacts. I know it's just now March but I would love to set a hunt up with some of you guys and gals who know the area. I live in Ky around several Civil War sites and would be happy to return the favor if anyone ever wanted to come up this way. Hope to ear from you. God bless.

I live about 45 minutes north of Orlando in Ocala. I would be intrested in doing a hunt with you but we would definitely have to do our research.

That sounds great Whatacoin. What types of places are you interested in? Ive been trying to to do a little research and found that Treasure Beach, I think thats its name, on the East side of Florida had several Spanish shipwrecks in the 1700s. From the information I found, apparently people still find coins and artifacts on the beaches. I don't know how true this is, or if its a plug for tourism, but sounds interesting. I would like to find some beach area that is close to the site that does not have a lot of people. But again, I don't know much about Florida so don't know if there are low populated areas that we can even get to.

That beach is called the Treasure Coast and yes coins are still found there, however there's far too much completion on the beaches and it's illegal to go into the the water with a detector. Our best bet is something inland where the competition is far less.

Or as you said you're looking for beach area, you could go just north of treasure coast where its not really considered "Treasure Coast" and get as close as you can.

That sounds great to me. Yeah we need to do some research and pick a good spot. Do you have any leads? Im really excited to get down there and hunt. It will be a totally different experience for me searching artifacts in Florida compared to Kentucky. Lets keep in touch. My email is zachary.mayse@elliott.kyschools.us. Ill research and get back to you with anything I find.
