So back we went to the field of dreams, as himself calls it…. Due to the number of Romans he has found there. After Christmas we will take them in to the FLO as I think we have come to the end .. over 100 Romans I think is more than enough! 😬

Dont be fooled by the nice looking day in the photo… the wind was bitter and must of been about 20mph..! But got a few bits … first this ‘Silver’ strap end, I don’t think it is silver no egg smell when given the tin foil, then this lead stamp (?) I can see a pattern on the end. Slice off a very decorative crotal bell, then a lead counter (small weight) 1 musket ball and a stopper (deformed musket ball) another spindle whorl, 2 bits of buckles, watch winder, decorative piece and modern D ring, then a very exciting object… little screw top barrel containing 2 pills 🤔… ! Buttons and 3 coins, all to crusty to ID.

these fields have been amazing and kept us amused since September…. but hoping we can go to some different ones over the Christmas break! 😆 xx

Lots of goodies!

What size/weight whorl for sheep wool?

I’m guessing wool, as Leicestershire was the sheep capital back in the day, I will measure and weigh the 3 from this weekend and let you know! xx thanks for the info very interesting Xx

That's an amazing amount of Romans off a site, must of been a meeting place of sorts,
Whats the item laying in #3rd picture?
Those small greenies are they Romans as well?

Oh that damp cold wind can make for a hard day, need some good Gore-Tex rain gear.
(Dropping a hint for the 🎅)
We had a warm breeze this afternoon it was still 10C or 50F
Well done on the recoveries 👍

I guess you could call those "cool" pictures! Nice finds again. Man, those are a lot of Romans! Congratulations you two.

Thanks Peps xx pic 3 is the side of the strap end showing the gap, and the shape of the lead seal thingy 😆 xx not sure if the greenies are Roman, I found them at the top end of the field away from the main area, so will include them, but am not convinced! 🤔 xx
