Well, its real as it is a "sword" but its not a *real* combat sword. Likely either a display piece kids were playing with or a cheap ceremonial.

First, WoW! what a find!:headbang::hello2: Is it a repro? Man, from your photos I sure can't tell. If it was "laying on top of the ground," it's probably no more than 30-years old. If it was washed out in a flood.. Stay in touch and let us know what you find out!:icon_thumleft:

I might even find a metal working shop and have a Rockwell hardness test run on the blade. That may give you some idea.

This type of sword looks more like something Conan the Barbarianesque than the type of swords that were used in the colonial era. Just my opinion, but I would guess lost by some kids playing in the forest.

I think Worm-slicer is close. It reminds me of a medieval type sword. So it was either lost more recently, was stolen and left there or is a repop. I'd take it to military antiques dealer. It's impossible for me to tell from the pictures, but it is cool.

More info from.landowner
It is definitely steel, or iron, and weighs like it is. It has zero edge. Just a flat side. I thought prop when I first saw it but pommell is very heavy for a prop

VERY cool looking, but I don't think it is a sword at all..
I think it's part of an iron fence.

With the additional information and no edge to it, I think it would be part to an old fence also. Older cemeteries had fencing similar to this. May be old forgotten houses nearby.

Perhaps it could be this scenario. Maybe people that do the Dungeon and Dragons reenactment stuff and actually do sword fights, perhaps the blades on their swords are intentionally flattened and not sharp, to help reduce any accidental injury. Of course a good wacking with it being so heavy would hurt, but at least not chop off an arm.lol Maybe they were doing a night version and lost it. Lots of people into stuff like that and cosplay anymore. Maybe that's why it appears no sharp tip to it also so it wouldn't stick into someone.

Assuming this is King Arthur's sword, Excalibur, the accompanying scabbard is rumored to have magical powers to heal all wounds.

Worth a second look. :)

I bet some Knight's Templer dropped it on the way to or back from Oak Island. All kidding aside, I never saw a wroght iron/dectortive fence like that. If some sword guy dosen't chime in, take it to someone who knows about em. Very interesting. Good luck.

Interesting theory about it possibly having come from a fence. :icon_scratch:
I'm thinking more along the lines of a ceremonial sword possibly used for inducting candidates into a lodge, fraternity or maybe the Loyal Order of Water Buffalo. :laughing7:

Date wise, I'm thinking late 19th - early 20thc.

Dave

Not part of a fence... not a "claymore" sword.

This is a medieval "long sword".

Please post closer / detailed pictures for further opinions etc.

PS...

This highly interests me... and this is one of the following cases...

Repo... taken to these woods for "role play" and left behind / lost.

Real... taken to these woods for "role play" and left behind / lost.

OR... ?
