Any tips on how to make on how to make rock carvings stand out more in photos ie I was thinking some type of powder (baby power) brush on rock then photo and convert to neg view???

Side lighting. If the carvings are out in the open, pick the time of day the sun is at a right angle to it. Or use a off camera flash at a right angle to the carving. No need to use powder.
 
Here's a little tip for you too there Kodack :tongue3: Don't use a digital camera to take the photo and post it. The location will be given by the camera :laughing7:
 
The answers above have some good points. You have to remember that photography is all about light. If the time of day isn't right, use a reflector of white material or a bright sheet of metal to cast the shadow required for good contrast. Running your images thru a photo program like Elements will remove the GPS data and allow you to increase contrast hand print-2_edited-5.webp. Here's another method you can use. Cover the carving with paper and rub charcoal or black chalk over it. This will create a high contrast copy, But you have to hold that paper in position properly!
