So still in shock here guys, was out detecting an old road looking for a colonial spot we though was close and got a solid 24 on my Equinox 800. Dug down about 5" and saw this laying in the hole. Can't remember much after that but my buddy said I was jumping up and down and yelling "Holy S---" over and over - when I finally calmed down I just said "gold" and opened my hand to show him .... his mouth just dropped

It is HUGE and she is a beaut!!

Stunning...beautiful coin. That is a find of a thousand lifetimes. Congratulations.

BTW...I happened to order a 'Nox 800 a couple of days ago, and before I had even laid eyes on your banner find. I must have been way too busy to not have noticed your post prior to now.

it is a find of a lifetime, the funny thing is I HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING SINCE !!! (almost 2 months now) so i'm wondering if she put a jinx on me??!!? (like no more coins for you now - you're set for a while lol)

Maybe there's another one...I imagined you scoured the area....nice catch...banner!

Thanks - we looked one more time but hunting season is stopping us from doing anything for a little while, private land but they are hunting it now.

I just wanted to add that the picture with the close size comparison to a half-dollar is very impressive. It's easy to overlook just how huge a full eagle $10 gold coin is in scale.

Have you imagined the million scenarios on how this was lost? What would a 10 dollar gold piece equate to modern day currency value from 1880?

yeah this was a pretty remote spot and it looks uncirculated so not sure unless it was part of a stash that we haven’t found yet !!!

Congratulations in the highest degree! A dream coin for most all of us! As I am from PA, and travel back often (with a detector, of course), it keeps the dream alive! :)

OUTSTANDING!!
