I found this in Alaska about 10 years ago, and have never been able to ID it. It is an aluminum piece, about 3 inches square. It has 15 teeth and is numbered 1-15. There is a stop preventing it from spinning freely. The back has two tabs that may have been used to mount it. ANY GUESSES?

Thanks,

MC

PS The quarter used for size was found yesterday! 1935S Yeah!

Our “what is it” item has a limiter. In other words, it can only go from 1 to 15 or from 15 to 1. Hardly a qualification for a counter. This weak aluminum item does not appear to be something built for constant usage. More of a set it and leave it alone usage.
...or in delicate occasional usage; such as in a camera.

I don't know but if they put it on here and ask what it is? There's going to be $%##$ to pay!

Wow! I would like to thank all of you for all the time that you have spent trying to figure this out.
I can't believe it has been over 2 years! I am not the proud owner anymore. This item was SOLD on Ebay.
Thanks to all that bid on it. The lucky buyer is some guy that said his name was Anon Mous.
I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and God bless you all :icon_sunny:

well i tried. got outbid at the last minute. I had to go shopping and forgot it only had 4 hours left at the time. But congratulations to who ever won the item, even though we dont know what the heck it is, it was still a great mystery. Good job musclecar!

Here's something that would be "Murphy's Law" (btw, Murphy is a close personal friend of mine ;D)

Wouldn't be something if the highest bidder "knows" what it is and that's why they bought it...lol

musclecar, have you thought about asking the bidder if they know what it is? Or, have they told you?

you can clearly see that nothing was broken off or connected to the bottom rivet.

I asked this question before to you musclecar. For those that think its a cold control, did it appear that anything could have broken from the center shaft? ...or is it just a rivet as it appears?

On the other side of the coin, those who believe the teeth/sprocket/cog turned something else, do you see any wear or indication of usage.
No I dont. I think if the sprockets turned plastic film, or counted exposures, on a occasionaly used camera, there would be little wear. ;D This counter/control is very delicate and is not used much I agree.
