I found this in Alaska about 10 years ago, and have never been able to ID it. It is an aluminum piece, about 3 inches square. It has 15 teeth and is numbered 1-15. There is a stop preventing it from spinning freely. The back has two tabs that may have been used to mount it. ANY GUESSES?

Thanks,

MC

PS The quarter used for size was found yesterday! 1935S Yeah!

On the other side of the coin, those who believe the teeth/sprocket/cog turned something else, do you see any wear or indication of usage.
No I dont. I think if the sprockets turned plastic film, or counted exposures, on a occasionaly used camera, there would be little wear. ;D This counter/control is very delicate and is not used much I agree.

Now That the picture is more clear I am wondering If the shape of the sprocket ends would be like putting a round peg into a square hole so to speak. The tops of the teeth seem to be built up or reinforced keeping them from having a true rectangular shape that would mesh with the hole in the film.

I am beginning to think its not part of a camera after all!

Buddy~
most old film didnt have sprocket holes. Read back post #581. I dont know exactly how it turned. (Fig. 3)

I enjoyed the long ..long...long post regarding identification of this item. I think I was on the second page before it dawned on me what it could be. Two clues stood out "It seems familiar" and "what has 15 items". I think you found a billiard tally. The sprockets are set far enough apart for the end of the pool cue to be used to advance the counter after each target ball was scored, it is easy to reset back to one and stops when you are shooting at the final ball. I think I have seen these built into some of the less expensive tables, but I could not find an image to post.

I just received a MXT-300 and am itching to get out and give it a go...but can you believe that its raining here in sunny So-Cal.

You should have alerted Jay Leno before selling it. He would have done a segment on the thing.... :D

Could it be part of the insides from a oldstyle pedometer ? Somthing like this but with single dial. I think they only had 3 moving parts, a pendulium, a dial and a spring. Just a guess but i could swear i have seen a dail like that when i was a kid ,maybe when tearing apart a pedometer. If you could find what those went up to.

Nope. I bet if it wasn't someone from T-Net, a year from now they will be searching the net for MD forums to post and ask people what it is. I bet it shows up about a year from now...Or, they run with the Jay Leno idea, get that God aweful thing on national TV and then re-sell on Ebay for a few thousand.
