Hi TNetters :icon_thumleft:

Today I had this feeling, I don´t know if you have experienced it, you hold your breath and the small hairs on the back of your neck rise and you get goosebumps ! :wav:

I was searching my newly found place from the Iron age. Many brooches and other finds have come from this place during the last two weeks. The finds reach from the Roman Iron Age about 100 AD to the early Viking Age about 800 AD.

I had a very good signal with my Vaquero and picked up a smal item full of dirt.
At first I thought it was some modern item like a small devise from a motor or some electrical instrument.

Then I noticed that there was a little bit of golden shining in the middle of the circle that was full of dirt.
I took my water bottle from my pocket and washed it carefully. The dirt fell out, and ...

THE MIGHTY NORSE GOD ODIN / WODAN STARED AT ME !!

As the first person for maybe 1.400 years I saw his face.
That was when I got that feeling that I mentioned at the top.

It is made of pure silver and the small face in the circle (messures 1,2 cm) is golden.
The find is with very big certainty depicting the highest god Odin / Wodan of the old Norse religion, because the image is known among others from the ancient Sceata Coins. It seems to be a small broche / clasp of some kind. The archaeologists will examin it more closely.

Today I am a very happy man ! :blob10:

This find is absolutely unique. :hello2:

@CRUSADER

Yes :icon_thumleft: you were absolutely right, thanks. :icon_thumleft:
Good for me too to get it confirmed by an archaeologist.

I have a feeling they may not be able to find the true function. I might be wrong but I think it's so Rare that there may be no information :-\ If it stays a mystery, its makes it more interesting in my eyes. If you get a full ID, make sure you update us?
Find of anyones lifetime :notworthy: :headbang: :blob8:

Looking at it, you seem to have a junction between two broken links, maybe a high status decoration on a horse :icon_scratch: No idea really :icon_scratch:

Something horse related, I would see as very unlikely,
considering the size of it, it is as mentioned only 1,2 cm in diameter !!

Beautiful find :icon_thumleft: congrats :hello:

:o :o :o :hello2: Dane , Wow ! 5 th or 6 th AD and being the first to see it :icon_thumleft: equestrian adornment for prominent Norseman , that may very well be it's purpose 8) Outstanding Museum Quality Relic Congrats on Banner :icon_sunny: 8) CMDdawg

One of my most favorite parts of this hobby is uncovering something that has not been seen for many years. I love finding things and wondering about who dropped it, how it got there, when it was dropped, etc...

Yours is a perfect case in point - what a remarkable find and fantastic feeling :)

Congrats!

Incredible find...congrats :headbang:

TheDane- Great Find! It sounds like you have an ideal spot for finding artifacts. This is probably one of the coolest, most mysterious relics I have seen displayed on T-net.

Thanks for the Great Post!
Keep it Up! M.J.
