For all you watching the snow fall. A nice warm summertime shot for you. This was my IMG959207.jpg first pan with gold at the South Yuba Hwy 49

Just checked my outdoor thermometer, and it's hovering
right on 3º. We haven't seen temp's this cold for a few
years.
cold-1.jpg

Had to pick-up a load of drywall late one night in Cody, Wy.
Local radio said it was -30ºF, and that didn't include the
wind chill. Unfortunately, I had a step deck trailer and had
to pull the load outside the heated building to tarp it, and
spent the next 3 hrs. working 5 min. outside and then spending
another 10 min. in the cab fighting off the cold. It's amazing how
bad fingers can hurt when thawing out over and over again from
near frostbite.

This will pass in a couple days, and hopefully our typical lousy,
cloudy and wet weather will return.

Be careful out there Ya'll. When you get into the negative temps,
many materials (like some steel) can get very brittle, and snap like
a twig.

I kinda wish global warming was true. Maybe if we all empty our extra spray paint cans we can have an effect.

Here's my strategy for cold weather mining. Grow beard, put on Carhartt jacket, then proceed to crevice above the waterline trying to stay dry lol. Sometimes you just gotta brute through it. Good thing about winter prospecting is that most of the underbrush is dead, so you can see more features of the land and it makes for easier walking :D.

Good point about seeing land features in the winter. It a good time to do some real exploratory prospecting :-)

Well Hangtown, as long as the bells and hat do not push the pack over 60lbs then I could oblige ya. And as far as "being winter one can see more cause all the weeds are dead" well where I go the weeds would be dead as the 3' or more of snow on top of them would have suffocated them but I can't see the ground any clearer. Maybe next year?.........................63bkpkr

despicable type of implement ....the snow shovel..

Thanks for the comments guys. I haven't been on here as much as I would like. This weather reminds me of back in the 60s, but even then, we didn't get our 40 below until the last week of December, course that was before global warming was invented. I'm actually glad for global warming, or it might of been 60 below this last week. Thought about inviting All Gore to spend a day with me, thawing out water lines. :laughing7:

Temps just dropped 10 degrees in last hour to 44 i know that is nothing considering what is happening back east but just doing clean up isn't keeping me warm. On the bright side the ice buildup on the side of the river makes for some nice hiking to the digging hole. No twisted ankles. It reminds me of a sidewalk.
