I go to one of my branches deep within a retirement community, only my second time there. You're not even allowed to live in this city unless youre a minimum of 55 years old.

Im talking with the tellers and I say, "have you got any wierd or old looking coins in lately". They answered, yes we get them in all the time from the old people, but we shipped them out for this week already. I said somthing like, do you guys ever see any coins that are kind of cool, my son and I collect old coins. They tell me, Don't know, we dont look through them, we just ship them off...quote! So I say, "but dont you know silver is reaching its all time high, you could be making 1000's/month, I would be ravishing through it all if I were you guys?!!!?" (just kidding, really didnt say that part).

After telling them Im in the Guard and that Im going to be gone some time in August, they totally open up and say, We ship our coin out Mondays and Thursdays. You could stop by Saturdays and Wednesdays and pick stuff up, get it off of our hands so we dont have to ship it.

Im thinking can you script this any better?? My lessons learned are: Be friendly and inquisitve with the tellers, give information to get information, take every opportunity to learn about the bank's system through friendly chat. They literally told me the best times to come and pick coins up!!! Most importantly, I have cut off a source for old coins to be thrown back into the wild by this branch and its all mine. Who knows what kind of treasure has been "sent out" by this branch over the years. And to the title of this post, This is the reason we still find silver!!

I too have heard this many times recently and lately when I ask the question. It is a very good point you are bringing up. One I hadn't really thought of too much. I'm just glad I actually calmed down enough to continue reading your post instead of replying about what I prolly would have called, "the stupidest, dumbest, retardededst freakin think you could ever say to tellers. Freakin dumpshid...." Then as I kept reading, I started laughing. Nice one buddy. I think it is safe to say that not everyone will appreciate your sense of humor like I do, but I say keep it up. It is good to fill in the gaps for me, gaps being times like right now, when i have absolutely zero coin to sort. I feel alone, and sad. They always said that after you have a kid, you will ask, "how did I even live life before? what did I do with my time"? For me, the saying didnt apply until about 18 months after my son was born..... when I started CRH'ing. jk. My kid is my everything, I cant wait until I can say, come on son.... let's go hunt some coin... nice thread Gil Hap.

The baby boomers are the reason I can CRH for decades, because when they get older and eventually pass away their junk silver to some degree will end up in a coin machine somewhere.

Less and less silver is out there as days go on, but there will always be silver out there- a kid dumping grandpa's collection, etc.

I will use silver dimes as an example:

I search a box of dimes and get 2 keepers(silvers), so there are 2 less silver dimes out there, but someone somewhere else is dumping a silver dime or 2, even if they are dumping 1 silver dime, the keeper rate will slowly decreace.

There are BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dimes out there, silver dimes alone based off my redbook(obviously many have been melted down) list that all ROOSEVELT DIMES(1946-1964) have mintages of well over 6,500,000,000(6.5 billion) silver dimes. That is not even including those post1965 dimes or anything below 1946(mercs, barbers)

So... how many silver dimes are still out there if one can average 1 silver dime per box of $250?(2500 dimes)
