The weather finally broke last and cooled off a little bit last night. I decided to get out this morning before going to work and see what I could find. There was a field I had gone to last fall that I was hoping to hit when the grass was cut. When I got there this morning, I was a little too late. Most of the grass was already 2 feet tall, but I was there and determined to dig. My first hole, I uncovered 2 coins; an 1866 5-cent piece and another that I am unable to read the date other than it's 1800 something. After that I dug two 58 bullets. A few minutes later I hit a signal on my DFX that SCREAMED. Only a couple of inches deep I pulled up an 1898 V nickle, then a 1903, 1910, and finally another 1898, all in the same hole. Needless to say, I was pretty excited! As I headed back to my truck, I hit another good signal and when I dug it, it was an 1817 one-cent piece. Not bad for a quick hours worth of swinging before hitting the job.
