This weekends relic hunting & coinshooting results
Normally I prefer to hunt for anything Civil War and earlier. That's where I like to draw the line. But with good older sites getting harder and harder to find, and the price of silver what it is
I decided to do a little old fashioned coinshooting this weekend in addition to relic hunting.
My buddy Tom and I hit one of our well pounded colonial sites on Saturday. The place has been planted in Alfalfa for way too many years now, and needs a good plowing. With the grass down from the snow, we thought we might be able to get something. We managed 3 coppers between us (Tom got 2), some buttons, musketballs and shoe buckle frags. Unfortunately, coppers from this site are terribly corroded, and many times you can't make out anything on them. I can just see the bust of KG III on mine when it is wet. If I can get the green scale off it, I may be able to see more detail.
I also did a bit of coin shooting on some spots that saw activity in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. I managed to get some silver, some indian heads, some buffalo nickels, and my favorite - someone's lucky horseshoe. More specifically, Bill Thomas' lucky horseshoe. I'm sure he doesn't need it anymore anyway
