Hello all,

What a great day !! Got up at 8:00am was hunting the old Hotel site by 9:15am. I started hunting a little area searched about 20 feet and got a nice dime hit. I am digging it up thinking Merc dime, Merc dime, need my first Merc dime! I find it and can see it's silver I am still thinking Merc dime, Merc dime. I clean it off some and notice its a 1914 Barber whoo hoo. ;D

I go down to Prolab69 and hold up my machine, he asks what I found? I show him, and take him to the site. I tell him I think there is more too. I get another hit and its a 1916 Merc, YES! I think to myself and say out loud I hope I find an Indian Head next and it will be a near perfect hunt. Sure enough my next hit was a 1898 Indian Head.

What a great day!! I spent the rest of the day digging clad. Prolab69 dug a Merc and a 1964 silver quarter and some tokens. Here are some pictures hope you all enjoy.

PS: I did not dare clean the IH but with a dry brush. I don't want to damage it like my other IH I messed up so much with CLR, I don't call it a find. :D So if anyone has any advise about how to clean Indian Heads please tell me. Can you use a potato on them too or not? ??? I don't want to use oil it's to much of a hassle and mess with little cleaning. :-\

Thanks all,
Keep @ it and HH!!

Thanks alot everyone!!

Yea, I would have crapped if I pulled a 1916 D Merc, Not with my luck.... As for cleaning it I won't try oil again I have soaked things for months with little effect. We are going to hit the site again tomorrow, hope I can land some bigger silver. Wish me luck all and thanks again.

Congrats on a great hunt.I am still looking for my first merc.
As far as cleaning,a potato worked o.k. on my last IH.I have been hearing good things about a peroxide soak on here lately too, haven't tried it though.

Hello Mud.

It is strange that you found your first barber dime yesterday and I also found my first barber dime yesterday and of all the strange things , my dime is also a 1914. Strange. It sounds like you have a great site and I hope that you find a barber quarter or a barber half so that I can find one :)

H.H. and keep on digging.

Great day mud.....you're on a roll. Keep looking, winter is right around the corner for you.

Very nice! Your heart went pitter patter for a moment on the 16 Merc, I'll bet.

Great job! That Merc is in nice shape.

Thank you everyone !

I was really surprised to see how nice all the coins came out. My heart jumped but I calmly put the merc away and thought I'll find out later if its a ( D ) or not. I hope to get a half of any kind soon....

Keep @ it and HH!!
