Hello all,

What a great day !! Got up at 8:00am was hunting the old Hotel site by 9:15am. I started hunting a little area searched about 20 feet and got a nice dime hit. I am digging it up thinking Merc dime, Merc dime, need my first Merc dime! I find it and can see it's silver I am still thinking Merc dime, Merc dime. I clean it off some and notice its a 1914 Barber whoo hoo. ;D

I go down to Prolab69 and hold up my machine, he asks what I found? I show him, and take him to the site. I tell him I think there is more too. I get another hit and its a 1916 Merc, YES! I think to myself and say out loud I hope I find an Indian Head next and it will be a near perfect hunt. Sure enough my next hit was a 1898 Indian Head.

What a great day!! I spent the rest of the day digging clad. Prolab69 dug a Merc and a 1964 silver quarter and some tokens. Here are some pictures hope you all enjoy.

PS: I did not dare clean the IH but with a dry brush. I don't want to damage it like my other IH I messed up so much with CLR, I don't call it a find. :D So if anyone has any advise about how to clean Indian Heads please tell me. Can you use a potato on them too or not? ??? I don't want to use oil it's to much of a hassle and mess with little cleaning. :-\

Thanks all,
Keep @ it and HH!!

Great finds! Congrats on the merc, barber and IH. I would have sent you a nasty email had you first merc been a 1916D!

looks like you've got yourself an old site. congratulations! that barber looks to be in great shape, as does the merc. actually, that merc is in AWESOME shape for a '16!!!!!!! wow, that was an early drop, probably in the teens.

WTG!

Nice looking silver and the IH is a good one too. My last IH i tried canola oil on it. I let it soak for about a day and took it off and wiped it clean with a dry cloth. Honestly I don't think it did anything to clean it off. I wouldn't recommend that technique, but maybe you're supposed to leave it in longer. Good luck on the cleaning though.

Congrats on your firsts Mud!!Gotta love those Barbers!!As far as the cleaning goes I've had a little luck with olive oil but you need to soak it for about three days and then a light rubbing with a toothpick.Just be sure not to let too much gunk get imbedded in the end of the t-pick or it WILL scratch it,but the wood is soft enough not to scratch if used gently.I would not recommend it for anything too rare but for a common date it should make it more pleasing to the eye.I found an IHP tonight but I won't clean it as there's not enough detail left to make it worth while.Sometimes you just gotta face the fact that some of them you just can't bring back.WTG, Bootstrap

Those two dimes are in killer shape! That 1916 Merc especially.
