Well, I got back to the button field where I found the 1809 Half Cent a while back, and Don in SJ was right. He said it is unusual to find a half cent without finding a Large Cent as well.
I decided to try a nearby wooded area, which the trees are no more than 50 years old. I knew it must have been a farm field prior. After a little while I got a strong penny reading and out came a copper that is approximately the diameter of a large cent, only lighter and thinner. Then a while later I found a cool relic, which was a large copper piece but I couldn't identify it. Unfortunately I forgot to zip my bag and I lost it! Then I got a real strong signal that I knew was going to be good and out came the 1839 Booby Head!
As I was heading back to my Jeep, I realized I had lost the whatizit and decided to go back. I am glad I went back because that is when I found the third copper! I still never found the relic. :-(
I am not sure if I will ever be able to ID the other coppers, as all were badly corroded from fertilization. They are soaking in peroxide, but I am not sure it will help. They look like possibly a Connecticut Copper and a Virginia Copper, but IDK.
I also dug a very unusual flat button which says SURDORE APARIS RF, (Double Gilt, Paris RF=Republic of France). Any help with this backmark ?
PS: I began searching the site more than 2 years ago. Prior to this April the oldest coin I had found was a 1941 Quarter. The site is huge, and I knew there had to be some older coins. The moral is Never give up on a site until you have checked every nook and cranny!
