Tied my oldest coin

We have back to back colonial farm permissions we’ve been hitting for the past few years. We’ve pulled a lot of British colonial coins, counterfeit British and tons of buttons. We wondered up there yesterday, my buddy pulled up a Massachusetts copper and a matron and I pulled up a first year Indian (1859) and a smooth copper disc that hit a solid 24 on my Nox . Once it dried off I hit it with my andres pencil brush a got enough detail to ID it, 1657 Louis XIV one Liard which ties my oldest coin ever dug, I dug the same coin last year in much better condition, I’ll post the obverse of that coin which has a readable date

It's crazy to have your two oldest coins be the same. I mean if they were indian heads or something like that, but 1657? I'm assuming it must have been the same site.

Finding coins from the 1600's is a whole different level of detecting. Nine years detecting in New England and still no 1600's coins for me. My oldest to date is a 1723 Rosa Americana. Congrats!

That is awesome! Here in Minnesota, if you want to find something from the 1600's your only choice is to hunt arrowheads and what not.

About ten miles apart, must have been a popular coin back in the day I guess. I’m gonna have a closer look at all my shankless buttons because that’s what I thought this might be and it almost ended up in my button jar

Nice find. Got a half of one of those years ago. Same site I found a French silver 4 sols. Tough to get colonial coinage thats not British or Spanish

Finding two of the same date for a coin that's over 300 years old is absurd. Yet another example of the incredible range of finds we Mass hunters are blessed to have under our coils. Great finds Joe!
