Met up with Nova on Tnet chats this AM and he asked me if I'd like to go help him hunt a site he had in mind. I said sure, see you at 11. Well I met up with him and we went on a land owner hunt. Turns out the owner says he leases the place to another man to run cattle on and we would have to ask him. Well we went to his house and there was nobody home. :-\ We were on our way out and spoke to a man along side the road and had an 1 1/2 hour talk with him about the history on the area. Well after the time passed the man we were looking for pulled up. Big Nova got out and spoke with the man and got a green light to go hunt all we liked. We then headed over to the site we were looking for and started swinging. We found the site immediately. There were signals everywhere. We made some good finds and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day doing what we enjoy.

Thanks Nova,

My finds for the day

I really enjoyed Detecting with ya HB,
We made some pretty cool finds and finally getting some beautiful weather and some good company and getting permission to hunt several hundreds of acres for some future hunts, the day turned out to be a pretty good day.

my finds today was slim, but the first find for me was definitely worth digging in the mud. It's a Officers Staff button with 29 stars and than with 4 arrows in the talon, a pointed shield and a backmark that reads Superior Quality. If someone could date it for me, it would be Greatly Appreciated.
I also found a smashed thimble, 2 skeleton key covers and a few misc relics.

Bill

Nice Finds HB!!! Like the "V" and IH. Sounds like both you guys had a good hunt. Is that a part of a lamp in the upper right of the first pic? HH, Quindy.

I believe it's the piece that holds the glass globe Quindy.

You guys had a decent hunt. Nice V and IH plus the other finds are great also. Ground is still frozen here up north. May still be another month before we can get out here. Sure hope it isn't that long but who knows....Matt

Y'all did good for a short hunt. That "key system" item might be the turn knob for the lantern part you have there also.

You guys had a nice winter hunt, good post and congrats on a V nickel! Now as far as that button goes, one weak area for me are the Eagle buttons, but looking through Albert's, I feel safe to say the button is a 1850's to 1860's General Staff Officer button. What I did not find was one with 29 stars, there is a GS17 4 arrows in right talon with 28 stars and a GS18 four arrows in right talon with 30 stars. If there is one for 29 stars I did not find it. Either way, sure that is the time frame, so that for sure is a keeper.

Thanks Don for the kind words, I did get out the magnifying glass and recount my stars, there is 30 and not 29, so sorry for the miscount and I greatly Appreciate you looking the Button up for me.

I am getting ready to go try my luck again for a couple hours and see if there might be another button waiting for me.

Bill and HB, that's a great looking Eagle button. That one is right up Dman's alley. Keep your eye out for him up there in Kentucky with buttons like that one in that condition still in the ground. HH guys.

I Love finding buttons and it sure is nice to see them come unearthed with the gold gilt still on them.

I always think it's cool to add some info with the finds and started rearching out the Stove tag that HB found. I believe it is from Wallace & Lithgrow that started out as a Sheet metal shop in 1836 and than in 1844 they started making heating & cooking stoves in the Eagle Foundry off of 2nd st and the river in Louisville, Ky but that foundry was destoyed by fire and they built a new foundry at the corner of Main st and Clay st., which is where this Stove tag would have came from.
Wallace died in 1861 and than Lithgrow took his 2 brother inlaws in business and the name changed to J.S Lithgrow & co.
