A friend of mine, (who never detected before!), got permission for us to detect the property around a 150+ year old house today. We got out for about 3-4 hours. (Till we got soaked!).
I let him borrow my old Bounty Hunter, and tried to give him a brief lesson on how to do it. We managed to pull about 150 clad coins between us, and a few goodies.
Here's my goodies: an 1895 Barber dime, a nice 1864 Injun, (tied my oldest Injun record from just a few weeks ago), and a 1902 V nickel. I also found 2 silver Rosie's not shown.
Now to my friend. For his FIRST TIME EVER USING A METAL DETECTOR, this lucky ba**ard pulls 2 1906 Injuns, an 1892 V nickel, A silver Washington quarter, 2 silver Rosie's, a .925 silver ring, and a gold necklace!
How's that for beginners luck??!! I told him it took me 2 years before I got coins like that, and that I NEVER found an Injun with that Bounty Hunter.
I think I've got him hooked now!
Thanks for looking.
TBK.

Yes Grasshopper, you have gained the knowledge. Now go seek.

Sounds like he's off to a great start.

Congratulations to both of you!
