Today's quick hunt yeilds two more spanish silvers and other goodies!! On a roll!

Well the summer of silver has continued as a quick trip out this morning turned up some more colonial spanish silver coins.

In one particular area I dug a pile of early flashing made of lead. This site has produced numerous pieces of this of both lead and copper/brass and always with square nail holes. I believe I have uncovered a small wreck of some sort and with each trip I believe it to be more and more true.

Anyways it was a very snake filled day today - they were EVERYWHERE!! floating by, swimming along, just enjoying the day as was I. I managed to dig a few more musketballs and lead shot of various calibers along with a few flat buttons. One of my favorite finds was the S Cook marked inner workings (tang) to a shoe buckle.

I have found a good amount of these lead pieces with designs...I suspect they are from window pains (lead framed) though am open to other suggestions.

My first target of the day was the cut pistareen and one of my last was the 1816 1/2 reale (cleaned up nicely). This makes 15 or 16 silver coins from the summer and I have not been able to venture out as much as I usually do.

HH

Dan

I'm absolutely amazed Dan at how much silver you've found in the water this summer. And a wide variety too from late 1600s cobs to that half reale you dug today. That might be the newest piece of spanish silver either of us have found around these parts. Another big attaboy for you!

Thanks man - this is a cool area for sure. I am just getting in as much silver as I can before the baby comes...should make quota for the year though regardless

Sweet Spanish silver! I also really like the marked buckle, I assume its British made?

Man oh man, that's a great hunt. Some excellent water recoveries. When I think about all the sites I've hunted around lakes, streams, creeks, or rivers over the years, it makes me wonder what I've left behind for lack of a water detector!

Yes - english made. S Cook is 17th Century

Dan - your buckle chape is considered a Type VI, and these were in use during the 1690-1720 time period. I also found reference to an "S Cook" bucklemaker from that same era so that should solidly validate the age of that piece as well as why you found cobs at the same site. Killer site man.

Fantastic finds. Although, at the sight of the first snake I would have been halfway home!! I really love that buckle a lot!!!

Dan - Congrats on more Spanish silver recoveries! You've been digging up the Bank of Spain on your shoreline hunts. I hope your winning streak continues.

Great site and finds Dan. That chape is the same one from a buckle that Bill dug a few months back. Pretty cool.
