Relic Hunting
I was scouting for CW relics recently when I dug this brass piece measuring 1.63 mm thick and almost 32 mm dia. It has no rim and appears to have a fugure facing left underneath the hole. It's badly worn but there were CW relics nearby.
To the left of the hole, we can read "TAIL" then the hole and "00". At 6 o'clock, we can read "ING" , then a space and "COMING".
I have no idea what this is but it was found in a very remote place with no modern relics except for a few cans and shotgun brass. I left the pic super big so you can see details so center the object to view. Thanks, Quindy.

Quindy.... No idea but it looks interesting. My guess would be some kind of token but not sure. Must have been carried a long time. Tennessee digger

Q, for some reason I can't see the pic; it's only a huge gray box. I can't see what you and others have posted, but no pic. Send it to me in an email. Thanks, Breezie

Q, since you can see the word 'tails,' I'm wondering if it is a heads/tails coin/token? BreezieTailsHeads.webp

I have found those before Breezie but they all had rims and the "iing" words don't match. I first thought that too. I have no idea how long ago those were made either. Thanks, q.

Have you tried taking a rubbing to see if you make out more detail? And what's the other side look like?

It's worn badly and unreadable HM. As you can see the letters are raised and this thing has breen worn a lot as Donnie says. Thanks, Quindy.

Quindy, from what I can see there should be enough detail to ID this item. Is there any way you could post closer photos?

Q, how about using some baby powder and do a light dusting in hopes some of the details will emerge. With the words 'tail' and 'coming,' I'm going with: #1 Heads/Tails token, #2 Brothel token, or #3 Announcement token(Circus etc. 'coming' to town. Breezie (I'd use my smiley icon, but can't see them well enough to select the right one! LOL )

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

This would seem to be a good fit for your token, with a reverse legend: TAILS YOU LOSE / ALL GOING OUT-NOTHING COMING IN. Where you think you can see ‘OO’ is where the ‘OU’ of ‘YOU’ would appear relative to the rest of the legend. There are two reported varieties of this token: one has the cherub on a chamber pot and the other does not.

Some sources give the token producer as Schwaab of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and some say Whitehead-Hoag of Newark, New Jersey. Perhaps both are possible, depending on the year. The R.L Watkins Company of New York, NY was the distributor for the Sterling Remedy Company of Chicago, who produced Cascarets Candy Cathartic (later, Laxative Tablets) from 1869 to at least the 1940s.
