By my math, you had a little over 8.5 oz silver in your three rolls of 40%, but you walked out with 7 Silver Eagles. So you paid 1.5 oz to convert your 40%'rs into bullion. You said you got some cash in your pocket too but didnt say how much; but the missing 1.5 oz is worth about $58 at today's spot.

you are right. I wish I could say that this was a Craig'slist deal, I had to pay a dealer about $3 prem. each for the rounds. He paid me $5 ea. for the 40's, which is $2 more than my local guy. I usually trade up for 90%, but ase's are pretty, these will be buried somewhere. j/k

You did not get ripped off FFD. The price you received and the price you paid are completely in line with what the going rates are for said coins.

Like someone said before, anyone who thinks they are going to get paid spot for 40%ers is either dreaming or is extremely lucky. No coin dealers anywhere will pay spot for 40%ers I would bet. Maybe you could find someone who is not too bright to buy them from you at spot, but that would entail dealing with some unknown person on the internet.

Anytime you go to a dealer to trade or buy.. keep in mind you're not going to leave with one hell of a deal. Dealers have to get their cut too. Just like car salesman so don't feel too bad. Anytime you swap for higher concentrations of silver or to gold.. you're going to lose a little bit.

You will also lose out if you trade up. Eagles have premiums. I think clad are just as valuable as anything else - I mean they are easy to sell and you usually can get what they are worth.

Interesting u traded 8.8736 ounces of silver in 40%'s to 7 ASE's. I just can't justify the loss of actual silver. I know all the arguments for upping to 90% of .9999, and the cool factor of reducing the other 60% of clad metal in those 3 rolls for pure ASE. That's almost 2 ounces lost. Braver man than I. I wont every troy ounce i can get my hands on no matter what form right now. Ag is Ag. Anyway congrats and u got what u wanted!
