Treasure Clue, can you help?

Hey Gaines,
Thanks for the kindness, it is appreciated. I'm not 100% on them all being on I80, its just that the number eighty is VERY prevalent in this book and it runs thru 12 states. Pancho, I don't have the answer to your pook question since it was thrown in after the book was released. My personal theory on it though was maybe it could be in an area where I-80 just skimms the colorado border and there is a town right there called Jewelsbug(spelled differently) Also pancho, I'm not being a smart arse here, but what dictionary are we all agreeing on using because nary has several meanings.
Another thing that really puzzles me is how is he easily(or not) going to give us an exact location. If they are in state parks or petrified forest how in the world is he going to be able to pin point a tree. Without (of course) GPS or latitude and longitude??? And for all of you giving me crap about rest areas and pee fixations saying he wouldn't put that in a childrens book, did you read the chapter about how pook got his name??? and it was my child that said the doggie looks like he's going pee...
My idea on the three parts is that they are not different for each token untill you get to the fairy part. I believe the sanctuary would be lets say rest areas, then the name (which has the 5 to a side thing would give you 12, or 13 diff locations) would be lets say iowa and then the fairy in someway will tell you which one

I forget who made the comment about the 13013 zipcode. ?Honestly, I thought that the zipcode, at first, was 13015, but upon looking it up I discovered otherwise. ?Take a look at the book. ?If you look closey at page 46, the first, third, fourth, and last numbers in Braille are very clear. ?The first number is quite clearly a 1- there is no other number with just one dot in it. ?The third number is a 0, as you can see by the way the numbers are arranged. ?The fourth number is a 1 as well, judging by the one dot theory, and the last, from the diagonal way it is arranged is a 5. ?The second number was the one I had trouble with. ?At first, I though it to be a 3, judging by the way the mushrooms almost form a straight line. ?But a quick check on the USPS site told me there was no city in existence with that zipcode. ?So after checking my chart, I assumed the number to be a 5, because there was a slight diagonal. ?This gave me the zipcode of Bradsfordwood, PA.

I also assumed the area to be a zipcode because of the fact that the photo appears multiple times in the book- the pages I have noticed thus far are pages 13 and the cover. ?On page 13 the mushrooms would look slightly out of place, but on the cover they would be no burden, judging by the large amounts of mushrooms there. ?They appear in ONE spot I have found in the book, and ONE SPOT ONLY. ?Then, after making that realization, I discovered that most of the cover photos were out of the book- those that I could remember, at least. ?So, after making many page-turning references, I also discovered that the picture of the tree with its hands up was also slightly altered- in no way that would harm the book, in facct, makes it slightly unusual-looking- the place where there is a knothole suppposed to be on the right side of the tree that is now a computer generated green. ?I haven't had time to examine it, but please do and tell me what you see!

I also bought a pair of those 3-D glasses- off a Fruit-by-the-Foot box, actually- and plan to look at that tonight...

Whoever was talking about the chapter letters, good for you! ?According to my belief, ALL THE CLUES ARE WITHIN THE TEXT, but there are also some other, deeper clues in the photos... Don't take my word for it, though!

And one last thing... what is flag language? ???

This just in... I just recieved a phone call from someone who is traveling I-80 on vacation and checking on my rest area ideas along the way. Something was found in the knothole of a tree at the rest area but it wasn't one of the tokens. It was a white cylinder containing nick-nacks and information about where they stemed from. It also contained a web site to provide info about it and it turns out there is a WORLD WIDE (group) if you will that hides things from each other and tries to find them. After just visiting that site and a post i just made a few moments ago, i'm begining to think the numbers thing might be lat and long instead of zip codes...? Check it out for yourself...? Talk about a let down though, she just about wet her pants when she saw that cylinder in the tree hole, so close...? ?www.geocaching.com?

Re: Flag Language. See:

http://www.gdr.org/flagmanlarge.htm

I believe in real life, the flags have colors on them and the color influences the letter. I'm not saying I see that in the book, just used it as another example of a specialized language that COULD help with clues.

In regards to the colors on page 20 and 21: here is a possibility. The system I am using to identify locations pinpoints the token for the spider as being in a place that is very near an old railroad trestle. I know the design in the border on pages 20 and 21 is a Celtic knot, but if you look at a picture of the trestle, the supports are all crosstimbers that form big X's. And the colors are in what look exactly like railroad signal lights. There is even a particular type of signal light that is the odd shape of the corner pieces in the border.

Very possibly a stretch--but I thought it very interesting that the motif of the border had a lot of resemblance to the precise location I've identified (which unfortunately, is a 3 hour plane ride from where I am).

Gemini, if it is the spider you are tracking, you need to get on the plane and ride! (The rest of us will chew our fingernails.)

Yeah, you are right. I even want to say that the name of that corner railroad light is a spider--but it has been a couple of weeks since I looked at that information so I am probably delusional.

I am toying with jumping on a plane tomorrow for a destination out west. It is the one I feel the most comfortable with--but it would also lead me to the ladybug which is, alas, the least valuable. But doesn't it make sense that the most overt one would be to the least valuable jewel?

Of course, I'll let everyone know should I be successful or not. I'm dying to share all the "amazing coincidences" I am finding via my system. But others here are presenting equally interesting possibilities too, none of which are the same places I am looking.

So either one of us is luckily right or we all have amazingly vivid imaginations.

Gimini, I wish there were a way that everyone who reads these post could chip in a couple of bucks for your plane fare. It would be worth it just to see if someone has come up with a system to find the tokens. It matters not that it is the least valuable ($2,500 to $8,500 is not petty cash). There is no price tag on fame! You would surely be on the Today Show and CNN.

Thanks LitDoc. The plane fare is not so much the issue as finding the time to get away. I was all set to do it last week, but a new work project landed on my desk.

If I am lucky enough for my system to be right and I can find two or three of the tokens, I'll share the system here and let the rest of you find the rest. I would not have gotten the full poem without the help of everyone here, and my system would not have come together without knowing the whole poem.

But even if my system is correct, one still has to find 'the tree' (if it is a tree, but I believe it is). I have pretty precise locations and that anagram in the dream I think gives an important helpful clue, if you think about it. Still a forest is a forest. I'm interested in the ladybug possibility mostly because it is a location where the competition for trees is less than in the other locations I have identified.

We'll see...

Gemini

Which anagram of the dream did you use? (I think there was more than one. ???)

See my earlier posts regarding: "Look in me, look in me, dreamer one on ending, I cause your puzzling".

There is, I believe, a key clue in the anagram of that which helps narrow the field down quite a bit, if you think about it.

However, I have found both a zip code and a "sanctuary" by applying the same ideas to another token. Here's all I know. I have found two "sanctuaries" in the book. That much is confirmed.

Pancho,

I know I have just joined the forum so you may think I shouldn't say anything. However, I do plan to contribute going forward. I do think some of the statements you make are made with too much absoluteness. Why not say: I have found what I THINK may be a zip code? We don't really know that any of these are zip codes until it has been confirmed. Which leads me to the other statement. Why do you say that much is confirmed? Is it really? Did MS confirm it himself? Did you find a token based on your findings? Then how can it be confirmed?

Please don't take this as hostile. I just want to make sure we think outside the box rather than getting boxed in.

I know someone who went looking this past weekend and was "certain" they knew the location only to find when they got there, that many others were obviously looking there too. ?No one found it apparently. ?For someone concerned about the enviroment did MS consider several thousand people trampling around picking at things (destroying things) as they look, because this is what was happening. I think MS really doesn't want anyone to find his tokens and I think he's an awful children's story writer. ?I would never read this book to small children, if you really read it, it's not a kids book. ?First off it's boring and he uses large words that smaller kids wouldn't understand. ?For example going into talking about details of wood...come on what kid is gonna sit still and listen to that? ? That's just my observation. ?I also think MS is VERY tricky because I think he has worded things CAREFULLY, meaning our instructions and "no special knowlegde" being used loosely. ?

The last thing I'll bring up today is that I had a book (hardcover) about 20 years ago...I vaguely remember because I was young. ?I do remember it was the same type of book where you figure out the puzzle find the tokens and redeem your jewel. ?I was too young to do much with it and it had a honeycomb cover w/ a bee on it. ?That's all I remember. ?I'm kind of wondering if this is the same guy and he's just changed ?his pen name. ?After all Stadther translates into "Hard test". ?If it is then no one found the jewels or tokens 20 years ago and he knows what he's doing and it's very likely he'll end up keeping his treasure and doing it again in 20 years when everyone forgets about it. ?Just something to think about. ?This is just all too familair to me, what are the odds? and does anyone remember this other book?

Gemini,

One other thing, you said the whole poem. Did you find more lines in addition to the established lines, or are you just working on the ones we all have been discussing this whole time?

My only goal in this forum is to make sure people don't get mislead by inaccurate information, and hopefully get the additional insight I need to find a token.

Pancho,

It looks like we are in agreement.

Ok, on with the hunt.

I have a question that I have not seen asked.

Does anybody think there is any significance to the acorns? Some things to consider:

- Acorns are prevelant in borders on pages 33, 36, 52
- Acorns in the chapter letters on page 52, 59, 63
- There a 63 acorns with numbers on them "as page numbers".
- Acorns are not used on all pages. They stop on page 102.
- The tools page has 3 acorns on it (kind of out of place)
- Two flower fairies on page 38 are looking very closly at an acorn
- In the table of contents the chapter titled "The jewels are Hidden in the Forrest" have acorns as the picture.

hey was up,

i am new to this and have been keeping up with this post for a week, very intresting i must say, Must say
MS is a very tricky person but, as one of the guidlines state the clues are all in the text i believe that me and two of my buddies from work have found one of the locations of a token simply from reading a chapter and dechipering the very nitty gritty details that he gives in this chapter. from studying the book we have found that every character in the books name is very important i wont say how yet until we ride down there and check our theory. the names are either anagrams, have double meanings ect... also everything in this book is personified for a reason ::) even the dust... if anybody got any ?'s let me kno otherwise ill keep u posted PEACE ;)
