WELCOME ALL NEWBIES !!! GLAD YOU ARE ALL HERE. ALL OF US WHO HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THIS BOOK FOR MONTHS SEEM TO MISS ALOT OF OBVIUOS THINGS YOU ALL BRING TO THIS FORUM. ALOT OF US HAVE GONE SO DEEP INTO THINGS WE SEEM TO FORGET THE OBVIOUS. AT LEAST THAT IS FOR ME . WHICH BRINGS ME TO THE ACORNS . I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOT THEM. IF YOU NOTICE ON THE ACORNS SOME HAVE - - 'S AND SOME HAVE . .'S ALSO IN THE CHAPTERS HEADINGS OF THE BOOK I NOTICED THAT WHERE IT SAYS THE JEWELS OF THE FORESTS YOU'LL NOTICE THERE ARE ACORNS THERE ALSO. STILL I DON'T KNOW IF THIS MEANS ANYTHING. I NEVER REALLY TOOK IT ANY FURTHER.

Hey Patchy!

I have been teaching children's literature at a large university for more than 20 years, and I know of no other children's book that sponsored a similar contest. ?Additionally, I think the author's name has been verified as he was owner/CEO of a large software company bought out by Microsoft. ?I don't believe that in 20 years, this book will be forgotten (for one thing, I'm going to include it in the next revision of my textbook in three years after all the clues are revealed).

Concerning MS's ability as a children's book author, remember that his purpose was to set up a real treasure hunt--not win the Newbery Medal! ?The story was formed around the clues, not visa versa. ?To accomplish this, it turned out somewhat contrived, and the literary quality can be affected when this happens. ?However, the movie rights would not have been purchased if it did not tell a decent story. ?And using big words is not at all uncommon (unfortunately) in children's books.

Could I suggest you send an email to the author describing what you saw last weekend (people disturbing the environment)? ?You can do it through his home page, and I do believe he would like to know. ?He might send a reminder to the treasure hunters that nothing needs to be disturbed.

And by the way (to everyone), if posters keep putting down the really helpful people on the site, then they just might sign off for good and go to another forum--there are a dozen or more out there. ?Let's help each other.

JUSTANOTHERGIRL, IF YOU GO BACK TO PG 15 OF THIS FORUM LITDOC POSTED THE ALL THAT HAS BEEN FOUND SO FAR AS THE POEM AND CREATURES THIS SHOULD HELP MOVING YOU ALONG. BUT AS IT HAS BEEN SAID PLEASE VERIFY ALL FOR YOURSELF TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED.

Anybody ever consider some numbers might be GPS coordinates? I can't imagine a more "exact location"...

Ron...

SORRY TO POST AGAIN BUT, I FORGOT TO ASK . ARE WE ALL AGREEING THAT EACH CHAPTER A CREATURE THAT HAS BEEN ?PUT ?THE CLUES ARE THERE FOR THAT PARTICULAR TREASURE ? I TEND TO BELIEVE SO. WOULD LIKE SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS ?.

The grasshopper does not look like any I have seen either. However, there is another insect that does have a body that looks like a leaf, but it is a longer, thinner body.

Back to Hint: Tackle Repositorys

I was thinking, what if the secondary cipher of Start Cipher Key in Tools ONLY pertains to finding the Pook token? Seems to me that he wouldn't add additional clues outside of what is in the book for any token other than the 13th. Just a thought.

Come April 1st, we may see a totally different clue. ???

I bought the book and gave up pretty quickly, I just watch how well others are coming up with clues. Wow you people are good! My patience isn't cut out for this hunt...but I do geocaching which brings me to the respond about the rest areas. In geocaching you use a GPS unit to go treasure hunting. Some of the cache sites are at rest areas and I have personally found that the people who care for these rest areas do "NOT" like you wandering around in the woods (unless it has a nature trail of some sort) due to 911 and the threat of terrorists. So don't be surprised if some guy comes out to yell at you and find out what you are doing!

Anybody notice that the anagrams for "STADTHER" are:

HARD TEST

THATS RED

?

Geocaching is where people have treasure boxes hid in the woods, parks,etc.. These treasure boxes have trinkets in them. A GPS unit is a global positioning unit that you punch in coordinates to a specific location, then it leads you to within feet of the location. Once you find the cache, you take a trinket and leave one for someone else to find. Then you go log in on your computer to show that you found that cache. Sounds easy?.....not always, especially if you have the coordinates off by 1 number. Check out www.geocaching.com for all of the details. It's fun to do on the weekends and there is always a cache close to your house and you would never even know it! ;D

PANCHO, I AGREE WITH THAT AND IT MAKES SENSE TO ME. I WAS STICKING WITH THAT THEORY . I WOULD LIKE AN OPINION ON THIS . IN THE FIRST CHAPTER WE SEE THE LADYBUG. IT IS VERY EASY TO SPOT IN THE BORDER ARTWORK THEN IN THE SAME CHAPTER ON THE TOOL PAGE THERE IS THE HIDDEN SPIDER . I POSTED THIS BEFORE ON THE RT HAND SIDE OF THE PICTURE FOLLOWING THE STRING LINE DOWN THE PLUMB BOB IS THE BODY OF THE SPIDER AND THE LEAVES SURROUNDING IT WOULD BE THE EIGHT LEGS. SO I GUESS WHAT IM ASKING IS DO WE GO WITH THE LADYBUG IN CHAP. 1 OR THE SPIDER ? AGAIN AFTER I FOUND THE LITTLE GUY HIDING AS THE ARTWORK I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SPOT OTHERS. I AM LACKING A FEW. ALSO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF WHEN COMING UP WITH ZIPCODES IS ANYONE INCLUDING PG. #'S OR CHAPTER #'S OR THEY DON'T COUNT. THANKS

I don't believe that is a spider on page 19. The ones on pages 20-21 have a body, head, two feelers and eight legs. The object on page 19 does not have all these necessary body parts.

So far only two of each of the 12 creatures have been located in the illustrations. While some of the illustrations have two of the same creature, none has two different creatures on one page.

Ya'll let me know if this is not correct.

There is a spider on page 19, but it is hidden and can be seen best with a mirror. It is like the hummingbird on the cover that becomes a horned owl when you mirror it. On page 19, you place the mirror straight down the middle of the plum line (the end of the plum line - the wooden/ball part) with the mirror facing into the page. There are many of these types of things throughout the book and I do not know what they mean. However, I am fairly convinced in my own mind that this is not meant to be the second spider and that both spiders are on pages 19 and 20.

THANKS GAINES , I WAS STARTING TO THINK I WAS GOING CRAZY AND WAS THE ONLY ONE TO SEE THIS. I HAVE FOUND OTHERS BUT AM MISSING THE GRASSHOPPER AND FIREFLY IF YOU KNOW WHERE THESE MIGHT BE LET ME KNOW . I FEEL THAT SOMEHOW THEY ARE IMPORTANT.

seriously this is crazy, ivebeen doing everything i can to come up with something, and so have you guys probably even more than me and weve found nothing, its just getting to me what if he hasnt given the right clues in the book and hes scamming us just to make himself some money, it wont be the first time this has happened, i would love to believe there is an answer to where all the clues and the tokens are but with how many people that are working together and seperate on this it just seems impossible...be that as it may, i will still try to do what i can. Good Luck to everyone as well.

One posting stated that they felt rest areas near Rt. 80 was where these tokens might be found. I was only trying to state that rest areas do not always welcome to people wandering around the woods. I found this out by geocaching...PERIOD! I was then asked what geocaching was. There is not always an ulterior motive in things, and yes you did jump to conclusions! You need to relax!

Jonesysgirl, I was the one who asked. Thank you for enlightening me on something new! By the way, if you take a (preferably big) dog with you on a leash, most people would not question you if you slowly walked around the trees, especially if it is an old dog who takes her time with those things. :D
