Treasure sniffing dog?

minelabex1000:
? :) They have trained dogs to smell out cancer in a person's body!? ?:o
I believe that shows an incredible ability of a dog's nose!

A friend of ours had a dog with an unusual talent: if you picked up a rock, rubbed it in your hand, and threw it into the creek, he would go, swim down and retrieve it! we used to mark them with a pencil to make sure it was the same stone, it always was! He was able to find the rock without seeing it first, in the water, on the bottom, alongside thousands of similar rocks! BY SMELL! I would think it wouldn't be difficult to train a dog to smell silver, paper money or natural gold deposits, but isn't refined gold inert? It shouldn't have a smell. well just my 2 cents! 8)

Omni, maybe he was finding the smell of the pencil lead, lol

We didn't always mark them, we just did that sometimes to let the skeptics see that he was bringing back that exact rock and not just any rock!

Good luck to you my friend and always feel free to share anything more you might learn in regard to the truly fascinating subject. In the future I'll be starting my own posting.

Have you checked out any of the 2,560,000! ? websites on/about Dog Noses?
How long do you think? ? ??? that it would take a person to actually read all of that?? ?;D
I know one thing!? ?::)
Who ever did, would certainly be!,? THE! WORLD! Authority? ?8)

all joking aside dogs have one, if not the most keenest sense of smell a very simple test is your mailperson.
people say dogs hate the mail carrier, not so,the mail carrier is packing the smells from thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people it's a smorgasbord for hounds, all those people plus all there pet's plus all the folk's that handled that parcel combined with everybody else.....plus everybody who has sent a parcel and it's been in that same bag plus there friend's ect. ect. the possibility's are endless, the dogs not mad ,he wants to smell it all.....Word

Yes it is possible Ive done it
Every thing has a scent
Just takes a good trainer and some knowledge

I have trained a dog to find anything.......I mean anything. Gold iron silver plastic no problem.
130 ft deep 200 yrs old no problem. maybe older. it's in his mind and how u train them

So Ive been training this dog on gold and a few other things. He always finds whatever we hide or bury.
Ive been waiting for him to find some gold that I didnt bury myself. So I took him to the park today, and he didnt find anything.
Went home and hid some gold in my yard. He was off the scent and in wrong area when he started digging.
And look what he found!! It's a silver ring that had been there for a long time, and i also missed it w/ my detector.

That's an awesome ring, is it .925, .975, or .999. Post a pic of the dog that found it. Is it his first ring? I wanna hear more stories like this one. Wouldn't it be cool if you could attach a coil to his tail so he could look for gold and silver, and you can follow him around digging clad. How about hooking up a cam onto your dog and put him on the web in action, digging rings and coins. Now that I would pay to see. Swiz

It's stamped 88 and JE sterling inside. I like the camera idea!

Dogs can be trained to sniff out just about anything, it dose take time and patience. For best results start with a puppy, make his toys with gold and money in them or out of them. (If you can afford it). Play with the dog and the toys get him to love the toys. Then start to hide his toys, when he finds them reward him with dog treats and lots of love. Repeat until he starts to bring home treasures. Now you have a treasure sniffing dog. Have fun and HH!

PS: I will tell someone on this forum about this. He has a treasure sniffing dog maybe he can shed some more light on the subject.
(Oh wait I see he already knows)

Disclaimer: I could be wrong, I don't train dogs to find stuff. I am not a pro in anyway I just want you to think I am

Dano!!!

Well no nuggets but saw lots of gold dust. Yogi did hit on an old iron ring about 4 inches across. I didnt feel like panning in the river it's about 8000 ft up and spring runoff way too cold for me. Then I went to a casino close by for lunch put $5 in slot machine, 2nd pull won $150 and then left right away. So not a bad day. Every time I told Yogi to find the gold he would jump into river at same spot and just stare down at the bottom.

Ok I'm on the road if anyone wants to contact me ask Floater !
