Squirrels would be great for finds gold coins in tree's. And a lot of old timers did throw coins into knot holes in tree trunks.
Gonna build a squirrel trap soon!!!!!

While out MDing in my yard, my hound dog was diggin a hole. I got ticked off and went over to him, he had an old plastic toy indian in his mouth lol. Wish he woulda found a barber instead!

Hay!
Are you available? ???
Or!
Are you still away from a computer/Internet?
Reason I am asking...
I have inherited a 1st Class, Reg.(AKC) Blood Hound!
I will be the Proud Owner ::) of a 7 mos old, ready to be trained BH, this coming Monday!
Guess what ?
He even comes with a "Book of Instructions" ! ::)
The previous owner didn't have the room or the time to properly train, exercise and handle him!
SO!
Is that the kind of "DOG" I see in your photo ?
But!
I would appreciate any training hints & advice, I don't know the extent of the Book's training procedures..
He is going out,THing/Prospecting, with me on this trip!
Where...
We'll be 24/7 :P Buddies!
Thanks.....
Cptbil & ???? ::) (Dog! Has No NAME YET!) ::)

Once while working a mine, i tried to train my dog to sniff out precious gems. But it didn't work out like i had hoped it would.
When ever people would show up. All he wanted to do was sniff out their family jewels. HH

Guess what! ;D
The/an average person ::) can smell and/or taste, :o "brass", copper, zinc, & etc ..
So!
Why couldn't a dog with 1000 times better smelling, not!
As you know, ;) most "Gems" are crystal forms of a metal, etc.!

Check out the September WE&T, Ed Fedorys, Relic Hunting article. I want to own Rudy the relic DOG!

I have a treasure-sniffing dog story for you. I buried several coins in my backyard to test my detector, and I came out one morning and saw three of the coins I had buried were lying on top of the surface right beside a badly-dug hole. Perplexed, I reburied them and forgot about them. Several days later, I came back out and six of the buried coins were on the surface in the same manner. Very confused at this point, I reburied them and parked myself in my kitchen overlooking the coin garden. Sure enough, about ten minutes went by when one of my dogs, (a little stray I found, looks like half-dauchshund/half-mini pinscher, dumb but sweet as hell) strolled out, did his business, and went straight to the coin garden. I didn't quite believe my eyes as I watched that dog re-dig all six coins I had just reburied and three more on top of that. He would paw around for awhile till he found the coin, play with it for a bit, then go onto the next one. What was even more surprising when I went out was that one of the coins he dug up was a Wheatie that I didn't put out there! He found that one on his own! So far, he hasn't made any attempts to go out and dig any Double Eagles for me, so I can only guess that he either smelled the coins that I buried and got lucky with the Wheatie, or saw the disturbed ground and played there for awhile. :o Happy Hunting!

That no good money grubbing cur of mine dug up my coin garden and ran off with it. God, I miss that dog! JIM

The only part of the TREASURE OF THE CAHUENGA PASS that has been found to date was discovered by a dog. And no, I'm not kidding. This is true.

My guess is those old rotting bags the loot was buried in have left a scent in the ground that a good bloodhound could pick up even today.

So, take that treasure smellin pooch of yours out there and if you don't get arrested for trespassing you just might find the treasure.

And for Pete sakes don?t forget that I told you this? ;D

I would think a dolphin could be easily trained to fetch gold items. Wouldv'e made the Republic search much easier. They can go down over 1000 feet!

The dolphin idea is great and would work extremely well for anyone. They could not only bring up treasure, they could locate it.

Dolphins are already being used by the military to do things almost unbelievable.

It's nothing for a deep-water treasure hunt to cost thousands of dollars each and every day. With a trained dolphin one could hunt with a smaller boat and crew.

Now there's just one small problem...where does one get trained dolphins? What would it cost to train one?

If you do get a trained Dolphin. You better have a years supply of Scooby snacks. Or he won't want to do anything. HH

Treasure dogs are as old as Spanish Galleons and maybe older. The police use them every day to find buried drug money. In fact, there have been articles written by those who have trained their dogs to hunt for paper money lost to the wind while filling the gas tank, etc.

I once owned a dog that would steal from the neighbors and lay their goods on our front porch. At one time he stole a long stemmed crystal glass and never even scratched it.

I believe dogs are the very best land treasure finders in the world. They can smell almost anything including metal. One day my sons dog dug him a 19th century cast iron toy. He was playing with his dog when suddenly the dog stopped and started digging this deep hole. My son let him do it and finally out "Mikie" came with the antique cast toy (worth $$$).

One just has to train a dog to hunt for metals and various containers that people would use to bury money in. Train him exactly like you'd train a bird dog. Instead of bird scent you'd use items you want to locate.

Were you able to make bail?? Is it on probabtion? ;D

Cyn

LOL!

Actually we never were able to find out where the stuff came from. She would do the neighborhood at night and we'd find the stuff on our porch in the morning. Dad tried to keep her home because he was concerned about her behavior. We never trained her to do that, she just did it on her own. The breed was a German Shorthair we named "Lady."

This isn't my thread but I've watched it from the beginning. There are people who post here who know the truth of these things. If I had the space and time to have a dog I'd be training one right now. I have done lots of reading on the subject and it does work.
