Skipped work today and hit low tide near where I found the the seated dime on Saturday. Didnt find much at first except for a toasted war nickel and various bits of lead. Did not keep all of it. Worked my way down the beach right along the tide line and got a real faint signal that turned out to be a deep 1847 Half Dime:headbang: A little further along I got another nice signal and out popped a Carson City Dime:hello2:

I like that before & after. I prefer the finished appearance to show that contrast & old dug appearance that comes from stopping the cleaning long before reaching the bright white stage - which IMO, is too far. We know we dug them - that's now part of their story and the memories of the hunt are part of why we enjoy having them.

WOW! Only up in New England can you find Seateds on the beach!! Congratz!

Im in Maryland and I can say its seems easier to find older coins along the river for me. Ive found about a dozen Spanish silvers along this little stretch of river too over the past year

Your on a great spot.

Well done.

The eastern shore of Maryland is about 250 miles south of the southernmost part of New England. Technically these sites might be considered a beach - but the ones I've hunted have been mud and silt rather than nice picturesque sand usually thought of for a beach.

Nice and Congrats! I won't ask you which river you are hunting because I know there are rich sites on all of them. Have all your finds required digging or have you found old coins on the surface?

Are you reaching your sites by boat? I sold mine last year because it was too big for my new place, so I'm shopping for another - both for metal detecting and also to reach some fossil sites. We could probably have a new thread on what makes a good metal detecting boat for our tribs.
