Hi all. I own a ranch in SE Oklahoma rich in Native American, Paleolithic, and Neolithic artifacts. Sunday I returned to an old campsite in the woods I discovered last year.. Recent rains usually reveal new items. Along with much broken flint... I found arrowheads, a motar, nice hand ax. This item though has me stumped. In order I list views
1. Front view
2. Front view,
3. Back view
4. Top view
5. Top view
6..Right side
7. Right side
8. Left side
9. Left side
10. Bottom
The only purpose I can think of is to remove bark from wood used as handles, bows, etc???

I'm going to say it's native Amer. man made wood or bone shaft planer or something in those lines. To me it does look worked and the fine grain quartzite is the kind of material that would have been choice stuff to the stone tool users. Others here, may differ on opinion of this? Your request would be better suited in the NA Artifacts forum imo.

it's definitely unique, hard to tell if natural or worked. i would love to see pictures of the arrowheads, mortar and hand ax.

Your item looks rather rough, but it does look like a spokeshave.
