11/8-Lil Lead HoneyHole Update: Another 30mins spent on Wednesday evening after work, at the spot and here is the total take for the 2 hours I have hunted the area:

Found this handful of lead at a new spot I reconnoitered yesterday. Found it in about an hour and a half.....One 3 ringer has been carved down into a wedge and one has been pulled out and folded again and again on itself. The black mass rang up on the MXT in the 50-60. The little buckle was very deep too and gave a SOLID +55. The round brass object looks like it held something in it but not too sure. The piece at bottom is flat with a small pin hole in it but not too sure what it is. And a Big IRON spike as well. This was a nice area though and was glad to have found it. Not a bad little take of lead and brass in such a short hunting time. I havent cleaned them up yet so excuse all the dirt and buildup on the lead. ;)

Great spot Josh!
Are those round pieces in the first picture middle row buttons or coins?
If buttons, any back marks?
Congrats,
MM

Hey MM, they turned out to be coins. A couple of Lincoln memorials :P I figured they were as they were really shallow.... ;)

Last w/end I was up in Indiana. My brothers and I had a memorial for my Dad. It was his 72nd birthday Tuesday, and we had his headstone put on his grave. We hoisted quite a few drinks too those 5 days. :o
Having the headstone finally brought some closure. We also confronted the man that ran my Dad over and killed him.

On to better things now.....
I'm looking forward to the CW site tomorrow. Hopefully it hasn't been cleaned out over the years. The area I am going to MD is up for sale and zoned commercial. It's now or never.

Actually, I hunted for an hour and a half and then went back for thirty minutes on Wednesday so it was 2 solid hours but it is still an awesome take for this area for such a short amount of time. As far as the folded lead piece...That is a good question. I have wondered myself. Honestly, I think the soldier was bored and just widdled the minie ball out and then folded it up out of boredom. The place where I found all this lead was a spot where the first year of the Civil War, there was only sporadic action with the occasional Yankees firing across the river at the Confederates and vice versa. It was a defensive line for the Confederates and they had to man these works in anticipation for a battle. WELL, they waited for a GOOD year before that action finally came in the late days of April, early days of May 1862. So, they had alot of time on their hands. I think this is the same reason that I have that 'wedge' looking piece of lead....Although, I think that whoever carved that out actually carved it in that shape for a reason, what that reason is I have no idea :) On another note, HAVE DETECTOR WILL TRAVEL, I see that you are from Stone Mountain, GEORGIA. That is my HOME as WELL! The BEST state in the Confederacy and indeed the United States! ;D I remember EVERY spring we would travel from Columbus (where I am from) and watch the laser light show on the side of Stone Mountain over that beautiful carving in the side of the mountain of General Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis. Such a beautiful piece of our Sourthern heritage. In fact, the same man who was responsible for that stone mural is also the same man who did Mount Rushmore with the presidents...Many do not know that fact. I know that you know this though....THE REASON that our beloved Southern Generals and President are only carved out to their horses and not all the way, is because TOO many men were falling from the side of the mountain to their deaths.
Well, good luck buddy and happy hunting, there should be MANY great relics to find around Stone Mountain, even though I KNOW that that area has been hit hard, very few areas have been hunted out!! HH
