Vintage detectors were quite capable. I was digging 10" silver dimes in 1984 with my Fisher 1260X.

Don't discount them.

Exactly! My Whites 6/DB ($350) in 1980 paid for itself 10x over within just a few months. 😁

Those old Fisher 1200 Series and CZ's are still legends. There are also lots of Garrett, GT, GTA, etc out there, along with CX Series, and Whites Spectrum XLT. But these are not as old as a lot of the old, truly vintage stuff that's been coming up on Ebay.
