Walking with Mr. Franklin & Miss Liberty at the Happy Trails site

Hi all,

Well Gary and I got out Black Friday and today, Sunday, and Boy what a Great Two days.

I was walking along and got a signal, my ACE 250 said it was a Half Dollar, I thought to myself, yeah right. I dug down 6 inches and Bam!, it was a Walking Liberty Half Dollar, man you could have blown me over with a feather. I couldn't believe it. Gary and I had been over this area a million times and today the ground was just funny, giving up all kinds of goodies. Going around the same area, thinking if there was one Half, their must be another. I got another signal and it said it was another Half Dollar. Man this can't be, but it was around 6-8 inches in the ground, so anything that deep, I'm digging. Heck I dig all signals whatever depth, but the ones that say 4 inches or deeper, get my blood boiling. I dug and dug, thenon the side I got a singal with my Sun Ray probe and there it was, the edge of a big coin. To my surprise it was a 1943 Franklin Half Dollar.

My other finds for the two days were as follows. I found a 1945 Mercury Dime, 3 Indian Head penny's 1901, 1902 & 19??. I also found 7 wheat penny's 1911, 1926 D, 1937, '45, '56D, '58, & 1957. I also found a Sterling Silver 5 year Mercy Service pin and a key.

Gary found 2 Large Cents, no dates, 2 V-Nickels 1898 & 189?, 1 Indian head penny, no date, 4 Wheat penny's 1926, '41, '43 & 1953. He also found 2 Roosevelt dimes, both 1964 and 1 Mercury Dime 1943.

All in all, I think the moon must have been right, cause the ground was giving up some good finds this weekend.

Hope you all had good luck also.

awesome hunts and finds ! i must not be holding my mouth right ! i hunt old houses and parks, everywhere i go its clad here ! i could use just one hunt like yours :o you guys did excellent, congrats ;)

Hi Weasel,
I see your from the Great State of W.Va. I bet there are lots of sites to hunt in fields around your area. I also bet you know someone who owns a field, that might have held an old school house, a log cabin or maybe even a battle site.

Asking for permission is a key to any good hunt site. Get out those old plate maps you can find in your local library and start looking for old home sites, school sites, Church's, old springs and so on. The maps I'm talking about would be the late 1700's to the early 1800's and on.

Hope some of my hints will pay off for you. If they do, we want to see all the goodies you find. Remember a one room school house was built every two miles. In Ohio were I live over 700,000 acres were designated for school houses. That means 700,000 One Room School houses ex sisted in the early 1800s here in Ohio. A one Room school house sat on one square acre.

In my dreams I can only imagine finding all that loot in the same area! It's also testament to how good those ACE 250's are! No disrespect to the man at the controls either. Great finds, I bow to the ACE 250 God!

Hi Clad 2 meet u,

Thanks for the reply, not sure im a ACE 250 God though. I just like using this easy to use detector. Hope you find some goodies and your great site also.

You might try looking at your local library. A good site is one that no none else can see. By that I mean look for a site, such as a school site, church, old house and so on. Look at old plate maps, from the 1800's.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting, Ringfinder
