Hello to all who view this post. I dug these bottles from a 1900's farm house site in two separate dumps. I think they are mostly from the 19-teens to 1930's.

They include medical, soda, and food bottles, one cruet, and a couple of intact drinking glasses. I have been using a steel probe and my Etrac to pin point garbage pits behind where the house stood. Found three dumps but only two were older, found a lot of big iron too.

I am hoping there are a few more pits on the property...I am beginning to like bottle hunting...too bad it's such hard work.

Thanks for tuning in and may the finds be with you.

Cool bottles mate. Love the herb juice

Hey Cambria,

Nice digs, sir. Thought you might like a little background on the Herb Juice:

herb%20juice.jpg

"In the 1900s, manufacturers of remedies said that some medicines cured medical conditions that they didn't actually cure. One type of medicine that said it cured more then it really did was herb juice. Herb juice cured "indigestion, stomach and digestive organs and assisted in the perfect assimilation of food thereby aiding the manufacture of pure, rich blood and eliminating impurities from the general system." It also cured constipation, gas on the stomach, nervousness, headache, dizziness, foul breath, coated tongue, weakness, bad complexion, nausea, and spots before the eyes. It cost $1.00. It was mainly made out of alcohol and it looks like an alcohol bottle does today. You could buy it at general stores." Herb Juice | Living Archives development site.

The successor was Miller's Herb Extract:

"Miller's Herb Extract, and laxative compound formerly called Herb Juice and Laxative Compound. But the liquid is the extract from the dried herbs and not the juice. Alcohol 11%. An agreeable laxative prepared by a combination of herbs, barks and leaves. Distributed by Herb Juice Medicine Co. Jackson, Tenn…" Vintage Medicine Bottle Miller's Herb Extract Herb Juice

Ink well found in the sea in port royal
Nice bottles

Wonderful bottles! :notworthy: Hard work for you but pure fun for us to see - Thanks! :cat: Andi

The bottles are nice but common in variety.
Really old bottles don't have screw caps, would be seamless blown by hand. Not molded.
The longer the seam the newer the bottle.
I would put those bottles at 1960's+.
My opinion only! Just another collector.

They are some neat finds especially the herb juice bottle, marketing products back in the day must have been something else.

Bottle Dating Examples
The soda bottles I would date from the 50s/60s, some of the medicinals i would date around 29s/30s.

Hey flyadive & Mucky,

I'm sorry, but you guys are incorrect. Cambria is right on in his age assessment.

The Tip Top Beverages is early Thirties, as is the Deco Nehi herringbone (if not later Twenties.) The Brevard County Power Co. bottle, is not only scarce and cool, but dates to the mid Twenties.

Wrong. I'm currently digging a late 1930's bottle dump and there are a lot of screw top bottles and jars in the mix. I've found a lot of Pluto water bottles from 1926, so I know this is an older dump. Screw top bottles have been around for almost 100 years.

There are also a lot of bottles from the 1920's and 1930's that are worth decent money. It doesn't have to be blown by hand to be worth something.

There are bottles with seams that go all the way to the top that are 100 years old. Maybe not old to you, but definitely not from the 1960's.

If 20th century bottles are your thing, go for it. I prefer 19th & 18th Century (if intact). Just to the me craftsmanship is there vs machine made bottles.
